Noticed some fencing going up around this building at 1314 Jo Johnston near Marathon Village:  https://www.google.com/maps/@36.1630234,-86.7960799,3a,75y,7.8h,84.32t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1syqc3BdA3avb0ejoljKSvBQ!2e0  There was a rehab permit issued back in September for this spot, but nothing new recently.  Curious to see what is planned for this cool historic building.

In other Marathon Village news, the newly revived Green Brier Distillery (dating back to the 1860's) will be opening up in a new 30,000 sq foot facility.  NBJ story:  http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/2014/11/brothers-revive-family-whiskey-business-in.html?page=all

I used to go into that building occasionally during the '60s and even into the late '90s (yes, I dared to ─ you just had to look "swoll" up and maintain a cold facial expression, and nobody would bother you).  Actually that had been a former Bi-Rite corner grocery with live-in owners way back, and even though it had remained a store of some sort long after the Bi-Rite franchise had been terminated, the store still had sported the old steel pole sign at the adjoining herringbone-brick sidewalk (now replaced with concrete).  The building also had been a boarding house in the larger portion above the porthole windows.  The original Bi-Rite Foods in inactive and merged, although the name has been revived.

Yesterday's deliberation about the PDG Germantown (3rd Ave N/4th Ave N at Monroe) SP site plan at the MHZC hearing was interesting.  It seems to be the case that the Commissioners approved an overall massing that allowed for up to five stories on the 3rd Ave side, but neighbors had objections to the height on the 4th Ave side, which is adjacent to more of their historic context.  So PDG representatives agreed to drop the height on the 4th Ave side to 3 stories except for a 4-story corner feature at Monroe.  The 4-story height will be maintained from 4th to the alley.  Then the building across the alley going to 3rd will be 5 stories.

With this MHZC site plan/massing approval, CM Gilmore can bring the SP back up for 3rd reading in December.  The PDG group will still have to present elevations at a future MHZC hearing after Council's final approval of the SP.  I would guess that this would take place at the January MHZC hearing.

Also - something is going on at the old abandoned grocery store at 9th Ave N and Buchanan. Lots of permits pulled and significant work being done.

Permit reports from today indicate that that a 1,697 sq ft portion of the building for a leather goods shop.

How can you tell which houses are able to be torn down and which can not be torn down?

Go to Page 8 of the Germantown HPZ design guidelines document.  This map shows which buildings are contributing and cannot be demolished without a hearing (highlighted in black), and which ones can be replaced (highlighted in yellow)  http://www.nashville.gov/Portals/0/SiteContent/MHZC/docs/Design%20Guidelines/Germantown_Guidelines.pdf

Also, here is the map of the MDHA Phillips-Jackson Redevelopment District http://www.nashville-mdha.org/pdfs/Map_of_Phillips_Jackson.jpg and the MDHA design guidelines for Germantown and Buena Vista http://www.nashville-mdha.org/pdfs/Historic_Phillips_Jackson.pdf, including a map of historic properties on page 10.

A store specializing in luxury, fashion trendy goods doesn't seem like the best fit for that area... Hopefully, the rest of the square footage will be put to more practical use.

Two entities interested in Schermerhorn land at 4th & KVB... one for hotel, the other for apartments.

http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/blog/real-estate/2014/11/hotel-apartment-developers-bid-on-symphonys-land.html?ana=twt

Little confused here.  Since I am not in Nashville, I went to Google Earth to check out the location and 4th Ave. S and KVB is where the Hampton Inn and Suites is located and across the street is the church/architecture firm.  Do they mean the parking lot on 3rd Ave. S and KVB?

Never mind I see which lot they are referring too.  It is directly across from the Omni on the corner of 4th Ave. S and KVB.  Lol I really need to get back home.  Forgetting where everything is lol.

My understanding is that you can link a picture (must be a url) that is already online or that you have uploaded to a cloud service (Flickr, Dropbox...). To do that click th epicure frame icon (below and to the left of the smiley face icon) and paste the link.

Crazy question: how do I post a pic here?

Feel free to ridicule me for not knowing but I'm hoping that the recent group hug has brought some needed compassion to this forum.  And, yes, I've tried the Help screens.

I post to Imgr. I also have an account on flicker and photo bucket. There is also a way to post directly on the site as they have limited space.

Most of the services are free up to a certain point. I pay a little because of the amount of bandwidth I use.

I need to stop in soon and have a cup of joe soon. Your new neighbor, the Thompson hotel should be starting soon.
