I can't claim to be right in any way, but I've always spelled it "Midtown". That's the way I see it in most cases. But Mid-Town, MidTown would probably work just as well. Just don't dare go with MidTowne.

Looking SW across from Courthouse Square observation deck toward Stahlman and Indigo buildings facing Union Street.  Has a bit of the  feel of looking along Michigan Avenue near the Congress Hotel from Grant Park in Chicago. Strangely, I found this shot on a Jacksonville, FL site:

That's how I felt about the nonexistent buildings in the old Ascend rendering. However, with 222 and whatever will end up behind Market St Apts, it may come true.

TBT: Bridgestone Arena right after completion in December of 1996.  Note that the two tallest structures in SoBro at that time were the Thermal Plant (may she continue to burn in Hell), and the Bell Tower Church at corner of Franklin (now KVB) and 4th Avenue South.  Demonbreun Street Bridge was still carrying vehicular traffic. Gateway Bridge was not yet in existence. Amazing changes in less than two decades.  And mind-bending to think of all the additional growth in the next ten years.

I keep forgetting the arena has those search lights. Do they still use them? Reminds me of guitar strings.

I've seen the lights on a few times in the last couple of years. They certainly are NOT the landmark sight they were in the arena's early years. I miss them shining up into the night sky--almost could imagine them as "Batman beacons."

I sure hope they are still going to try and rebuild the front facade facing 4th Avenue.

They saved the facade and it is to be reinstalled on the new structure. That is a part of the agreement with the city in order to get the incentive money. (And they do not get all the money up front!)

My dream for Nashville's tallest, a 70-story beauty, would be where that horrific 8-story brown parking garage sits at the NW corner of Commerce and 4th Avenue (directly west across 4th Avenue from One Nashville Place---the R2D2 building).

I knew they saved the facade, but didn't realize the plan was to completely tear down the building.   I read the article a couple weeks ago to say the original structure would be renovated/repaired and the facade replaced.
