  1. Sorry…I didn’t mean to steal your thunder. Feel free to delete my post if needed.
  2. Noticed a story on Penny Adams and Penny Adams Photography on WKRN. She took these photos in 2015 and 2024. UNBELIEVABLE! The photo print that’s for sale is one of the best skyline photos of Nashville I’ve ever seen.
  3. I don’t know if this has already been mentioned, but there's a series on Amazon Prime featuring Garth and Trisha and it’s behind the scenes of them tearing out and rebuilding their new bar / restaurant on Lower Broadway. REALLY COOL look at what all went on…the plans…rebuilding the neon sign...how they went about adding the police substation…and all kinds of intricate bits that actually makes the show pretty interesting. I think they’re about 4-5 episodes in (it’s a weekly show).
  4. Definitely don’t think the names hurt. You’d be surprised how many people want to go visit the bar of their favorite singer (even though the singer doesn’t actually own the bar). And…every single time I hear someone say they just went to Nashville, they’re always exclaiming how fun it was…and they’re almost always talking about Lower Broadway. It’s not my type of thing…but it’s definitely a major calling card for the city and a way to attract massive amounts of tourists.
  5. This is one building where I’m slightly perplexed on the height allowance. I realize it’s supposed to be a “stair step” back away from the street..but it still looks significantly taller / larger than the buildings surrounding it. I’ll wait until they’re totally finished before saying too much more…but I am scratching my head a little.
  6. They did a fabulous job. When you consider what it looked like at times (like a bombed out building about to fall)…it now looks like it’s been there for more than 100 years (like it’s supposed to look). Bravo.
  7. The ultimate question is whether or not the update is enough to exorcise the ghosts of one night stands and bad decisions that took place within those walls.
  8. That would be like Otis in the Andy Griffith Show letting himself into a jail cell when he’s too drunk to go home.
  9. I still can’t look at the name WeHo without thinking in my head, “I Ho, You Ho, We All Ho” This is a great project, though. WeHo is looking awesome.
  10. I don’t agree with most of what Argo says…but it’s this attitude right here from you guys on the left on this board that keeps anyone remotely conservative from posting. I pretty much stopped posting on here (even though I’ve been a member for nearly 20 years) just because as a conservative, I feel so damned unwelcome…and feel like this is a liberals-only message board. At least you guys could just stop being hypocritical and come out and admit you want this to be a “safe space” for liberals. As a conservative, I’ve read conservative attacks on here one after another…and you guys don’t even have a clue. In your self-righteousness, you just think you’re right…not that what you’re expressing is an opinion…just that it’s fact. It’s an arrogance that frankly is pretty disgusting to read. It used to not be like this…in the beginning…but now this board just seems to be filled with angry “shake my fist at the world and blame the conservatives for all of my ills” left-wing Urbanist fanboys. I’ll eventually learn my lesson and leave for good, like I should have a long time ago…but I keep thinking I’ll come back to see things have changed. But…sadly, they have not.
  11. Yes…it converted to the half-mile paved oval in 1957, but actual auto racing has been at the fairgrounds for over 100 years. There is a LOT of information online that says AUTO racing began at the fairgrounds in 1904. https://nashtoday.6amcity.com/fairgrounds-speedway-history-nashville-tn
  12. The Fairgrounds track used to be a NASCAR track…for many decades, until Nashville let it slip through their hands in the mid-80s. It is NOT a small city track…it is similar to the size of Bristol and several other tracks without the seating. It currently seats about 15k…and they want to rebuild the stands to seat 30k (unlike the 100k+ that Bristol can seat). It’s not like they’re going to suddenly turn this into a mega-track. They’ll have a top level NASCAR race there ONCE every TWO years. They’ll improve the sound barriers (that are almost non-existent now). And…even if this deal falls through, the track IS NOT going away and will continue to host the same amount of races it always has…AND the city (citizens of Nashville) will have to pay yearly for upgrades. I think it’s one thing for citizens to complain about the cost of a potential deal…but for citizens to act as if someone is coming in and building a brand new NASCAR track in a residential neighborhood (how DARE they! **shaking fist**) would actually be laughable if not for the fact that’s EXACTLY what many are believing. In the end, I have a feeling the residents in that area will wake up one day with the same-ol’ subpar track with the same-ol’ 10+ races a year and upkeep paid for yearly from their own pockets.
  13. I’ve never been to a NASCAR race, though I used to watch a few races with my brother when I was younger. Thing is, they’ve built all of these HUGE tracks, similar to Nashville Superspeedway, where you could conceivably seat 100k+, which is what they were doing for 20+ years. But now, they see the writing on the wall and are begging to get back to the “roots” of the sport…and Nashville’s Fairgrounds Speedway is one of the “gems” of the early sport (raced there until the mid-80’s). NASCAR wants to be in that specific spot badly. It’s a fun track…different than most…has immense history. The track in Gladeville is a bit of a drive outside of Nashville and is so cookie-cutter and bland in comparison to what the Fairgrounds track is. Do I wish it weren’t surrounded by homes now and maybe a little different location? Yeah…I guess. But also…do we have to be a total “change is good” city, as well? Is there no room to keep a 100 year old track going? It’s not like bringing in 1 NASCAR a race a year is going to inconvenience this neighborhood to the point their quality of living is drastically altered. It’s also not like there hasn’t been continual racing (probably many times without much, if any, noise cancellation) in this exact spot for decades. To me, it seems almost like a segment of people who just want racing gone from the city smell blood in the water and now is the perfect time to attack.
  14. Dropping by to make my “once every 6 months post” NASCAR made the fatal decision, first of all, to leave a market like Nashville in the first place back in the 80’s. Then…in the 90’s, it became a major fad, pulling in millions of new viewers, filling up 100k+ tracks. They started expanding the circuits outside of the south and eastern seaboard, sometimes taking away a race from a southern track. And…as the “good ol boys” started retiring (or worse)…guys like Dale E, Darrell Waltrip, Mark Martin, etc…the entire sport started losing it’s “bad boys” persona and became way too polished…kinda “Hollywood-ed”. They’re actually making the right moves by trying to come back to the smaller tracks and get back to their roots…but MAYBE it’s too late and maybe they’ve actually stuck a dagger in their own sport?
  15. He’s just a troll that is allowed to remain and troll away, while other trolls have been banished to the hinterlands.
  16. After taking time to look closely at some of the renders, I really like all of the terraces surrounding the stadium. It’s obvious they are wanting this to fit into a neighborhood they’re building…and instead of a structure surrounded by flat asphalt on all sides, it appears they’re going for “stages” all around the stadium,…areas where people can gather, almost little mini-neighborhoods around the stadium, so to speak. Definitely makes more of a unique setup that I’ve not seen before. It’s a fresh new approach. Makes me think that in some way they’re trying to replicate a bit of the feel of Bridgestone being surrounded by buildings, rooftops and lot of places for people to mingle and “collect." One thing I think that would help give the design a little flair is if they were able to give some of the terraces / rooflines that nice wavy structure similar to the MCC. Something as small as that (maybe not the top of the roof…but just some of the side views)…a few small curves to act almost like flourishes.
  17. Would be really cool if they used lighting like they do at the Preds’ games and at night, make it look like there’s a tone arm dropping onto the “circle” dome and have it spinning like a vinyl record.
  18. What are you wanting? To me, it will blend in with the neighborhood better than just about any design they could come up with. Do we need something that stands out as “wow…look at that football stadium”…or do we need, “wow, that’s a cool neighborhood…I thought you said there was a football stadium here…I don’t see it?” I guess it’s all subjective. I will say…I love the look of the inside, which is what counts in the end. However…I still wonder about that 60k number on seating. Until I see all the other NFL teams going in that direction, I’ll scratch my head a little.
  19. Country music has almost always been one of the top 2 genres of radio stations in the US.
