The West End

The information shared with the local news agencies earlier this year said Grape and Grains would be expanding into three vacant warehouses on Markley Street in the West End (shown to be the same location formerly eyed by oobē). They apparently plan to open a larger retail shop, winery, and brewery. That would make it the fifth commercial beer brewery in Greenville.

Anyone know the Grape and Grains folks?  I'd love it if they would start a BOP (Brew on Premises) service for homebrewers without space/equipment to brew at home.

The new plans call for renovations of 42,000 square feet of space, known as The Depot. The development could include office, retail or restaurant space, a courtyard, on-site parking, streetscaping and patios on both the ground level and rooftops.

The Andersons are currently recruiting interested tenants to be a part of the redevelopment. The husband-wife duo plans to move their own Greenville business, Grape and Grains, into roughly 10,000 square feet of the development sometime next year. Grape and Grains is a winery, brewery and home brew supply store.

That is welcome news. My imagination can run wild with development concepts for that chunk of valuable real estate.

Agreed. Initial thought was hope for ground floor parking / overhead residential (along stadium line of property) and ground floor retail with overhead "cool / tech" warehouse type space along Augusta St., underwritten by the GLDC, as discussed on page 71-72 of the Greenville Master Plan (Sasaki, 6/2008). I hope downtown continues to push for additional residential space and knowledge business space - even if development is subsidized by GLDC.

I wonder too if the city could get the parcel next to the transit authority if it grants the Cureton estate's wishes to demolish the house across the street so the children's theater could build there? That would give the city a very large parcel to develop...

What is the current status of this proposed project? A commercial real estate sign out front indicates the property remains "available".
