    The West End

I had not walked down to Pendleton Street in a while. I was surprised to see how far along New Realm had gotten. However, at the same time, they don't appear to be building everything that I recall them proposing. Am I misremembering, or perhaps they just haven't started on some elements of the project? It was also dark at the time that I was walking by.
  2. Woohoo! Finally going to help conceal the Link Apartments.
  3. Are you thinking that this is for the first apartment building that is supposedly under permit review by the City?

    The West End

I like it. I think it turned out well and helps add to the sense of place.
  5. More details seems like a reasonable request.
  6. Somehow a major point is being missed here: work on the bridge needs to be conducted anyhow. The structural repair is the driver for the project. It is also the aspect of the work that is requiring major lane closures and detours. The pedestrian improvements, aesthetic upgrades, and safety issues are minor additions to the scope of work. I think most people would be surprised at how many people actually walk/jog on the current bridge. The guardrails do not meet current safety standards. This is going to be an asset as County Square gets built out.
  7. The more that I look at the site plan, I do appreciate the fact that they're addressing both streets. Is this the new development code at work? Clearly parking is the limiting factor, and they don't currently have the appetite (budget) for structuring the parking at this site.
  8. They have a cult-like following. I believe you can currently buy their roasts in Whole Foods if you're a coffee drinker and curious!
  9. That is supposed to be for market rate units?
  10. Fencing is currently going up around the next phase of the park (baseball field + Honor Tower). The tree protection that has been put into place indicates that the tower will finally be starting construction. I know there's going to be negative comments forthcoming from the peanut gallery, but I'm excited for Honor Tower to start construction.
  11. I've heard a similar rumor. If it's true, I hope they do it justice with a true mixed-use, urban entertainment district. Verdae doesn't inspire a ton of confidence, but hopefully the City is guiding them.
  12. If you look at it from the south, it’s skinny.
  13. Your quote in this thread: "Our family was the sacrificial lamb when the city took our building by eminent domain in the Piazza Bergamo then flipped it for a million dollar profit when it was sold to another restaurant." According to said Greenville Journal article, your father chose to SELL the property for $190,000. Feeling pressure to do so or not, it was a choice and NOT taken through eminent domain. Public records then show it being sold by the Greenville Local Development Corp to a private entity for $240,000. Sooooo... when you misrepresent facts for the sake of outrage, I, personally, struggle to believe you.
  14. As we know from experience, there are factual issues with your story telling. The road diet will be good for Pendleton Street, the West End neighborhood, and for OJ's Diner. You'll find that out eventually.
  15. Regarding the comments about design: you've got to remember what this is, and compare it to similar case studies. It's an apartment building. It is not an office building for a fortune 500 company or corporate HQ. It is not multi-million dollar condominiums in Manhattan. It is not being funded by a university's endowment. Nor are we time traveling to 100 years ago. A developer is interested in a site in Greenville, South Carolina in 2024. They've got to charge rent that will get leases signed, and adequately cover their investment and expected returns. As a result, they can set their budget for the building and build what that allows.
  16. From a massing perspective, I think they're going in a good direction with the base of the building. I like the curvature of the elements at street level. Materiality will play a big part, so I look forward to seeing more on that front. I'm encouraged by the restaurant space, creative studios, and commercial elements. This could be a big step in the right direction, but that will remain to be seen by who they attract to fill those spaces.
  17. Can someone remind me what is now under construction at the corner of Birnie and Gower Streets?
  18. Wow- that’s a beautiful piece for the park! Artisphere is on the verge of releasing their sculpture to celebrate the 20th anniversary. Does anyone know where it will be?
  19. Be on the lookout for the agendas of the upcoming Project Preview Meetings. It may not get built, but ideas are being thought up and money is being spent.
  20. The scuttlebutt is that we'll see a new proposal in the coming months for this site. The parking must be temporary until the design work/permitting is complete (which will likely be after baseball season).
  21. I would LOVE to see this specific project happen. Based on the amount of time that has passed, I'd put my money on a new proposal coming forward.
  22. I sure hope that has changed. *fingers crossed*
  23. Hopefully the residents would be open to it or request it at some point (similar to Club Forest many years ago). Annexation of the golf course at this time is to bring the Chanticleer course under one jurisdiction prior to a major course renovation.
  24. Without some sort of major change, Charleston County should pass Richland County next year to become the second most populous county in the state. However, Horry seems poised to take that title by 2030.
