This is such a mistake. It just perpetuates the car dependency. The best parts of downtown, such as Church St, are the way they are because they had to figure out how to grow up in an environment where it wasn't taken for granted that we would pay anything to remove as much friction as possible for car commuters.

What's the reasoning behind building two separate buildings connected by two skywalks, as opposed to one continuous structure?

Asking as an admirer of architecture who knows zilch about actual architecture.

I think part of it, personally, is to break up massing.

From my understanding it’s not to segregate any business units or departments.  Just a “neato” factor.  

I also found out this site was third on their list and came in way late as Asurion was about to push the button for Cool Springs.  (Somewhere McEwen and Carothers but don’t think Ovation)

Sadly that’s all I’ll be able to give now.  I’m leaving Asurion as I took a position at Accenture which puts me deeper into CBD.  From free parking to Nissan parking.   Lol.

Demo has started internally on the Tennessean site, and external walls will start coming down in phases starting in mid-summer.

Highwoods Properties plans to erect new upscale offices wrapped in retail shops at the site. But final design plans haven’t been decided.

"We’re pursuing prospective tenants for the property," said Highwoods Senior Vice President Brian Reames. "We’re really excited to be getting in a position to pursue the many opportunities in the urban core."

They'd have to be completely disassembled if they do get moved, but at last check, there wasn't a buyer lined up because the presses were so old and required so much maintenance and space to operate. There's just not much demand for massive printing presses in 2019.

There is pretty much constant freight movement through the Gulch.    This is the CSX line that crosses the Cumberland, loops around the state capitol over Bicentennial Mall and tracks south through the Gulch and Radnor Yards.

Oh yeah!  Took a shot of train traffic from my office window today.   The best train through  the Gulch recently was the old steamer #576 which was liberated from Centennial Park and is going through a complete restoration.  It will be eventually running excursions from Nashville when it is finished.  The steam powered whistle again in the Gulch was awesome!

TERRIBLE photo (sorry) but as I am sitting in my office in Gulch Crossings I just now looked up and noticed the crane is being put up!
