The Transportation and Mass Transit Megathread
downtownresident replied to TopTenn's topic in Nashville
I'd like to see the Charlotte line extend out to Nashville West, and a spur of BRT down White Bridge Road to the AJ Capital development/Hill Center. I'm sure the Woodmont neighborhood wouldn't like this, but it would be nice to extend the rapid line past Harding and connect in with Thompson Lane through to Murfreesboro Road. I don't know if it would be possible to run dedicated lane BRT along 70S through Belle Meade or not, but that would be nice to give access to Bellevue. -
The Transportation and Mass Transit Megathread

I wonder if the transit stations will include bus bays for transfers, etc while standard park and rides are just a bus stop with a parking lot -
More coverage from the NBJ- this story with some additional details on the Oracle Campus. https://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/news/2024/04/23/oracle-east-bank-hq-design-apple-norman-foster.html “At the April 23 Oracle Health Summit, Ellison announced that British architect Norman Foster is involved in campus designs. (So is Ellison, including the look of a pedestrian bridge that would link Oracle's campus with Germantown.) Foster and his firm, Foster + Partners, have designed skyscrapers worldwide and the iconic circular headquarters of Apple Inc. In addition to office buildings, Ellison said Oracle's property will have a hotel, restaurants, a community health clinic and a "beautiful concert venue." "We will have a lake on the campus with a floating stage where we can have concerts for the community," Ellison said. "We want to be a part of the community. Our people love it here."

An additional quote from the story, “At the end of an hourlong discussion, Frist asked Ellison why Oracle was making such a large investment in Nashville. "First and maybe foremost, Nashville's already a health center," Ellison said. "We're moving this huge campus, which will ultimately be our world headquarters. We're moving that to Nashville." Oracle seems deeply committed to a presence here. I’m sure something will eventually be built on the East Bank, Oracle has already invested $250 million in just the land.

The absolute biggest missed opportunity with Division street are the power poles. The entire street on both sides from the Icon to 8th Ave S was/is being redeveloped, and the city didn’t force the issue. That being said, the redevelopment isn’t fully completed yet and Division is still a bit of a mess. I think that once the landscaping matures, and the bike lanes are reinstalled/road repaved it will be a better experience that can be enhanced with strategic investments(crosswalks, hawk signals, etc)

I was about to say, kudos to Firestar2323 for the updates. He/She hit almost all of the major buildings that have gone up during the latest boom.

Mid City / Reed Districts / Dairy property will really extend the skyline. -
Big Spring Park is an excellent piece they could easily build a vibrant downtown around. Just need to get some mixed use residential / hotel built around there.

Fitness Centers typically have high ceilings, so that makes sense.

This quote is utterly laughable. There were multiple public meetings, three readings of Metro Council, etc before the SP Zoning was passed. Both of these sites are a block off of Korean Veterans Blvd, and the specific plans offer many community amenities that will enhance the neighborhood and Downtown as a whole. Would they rather the developers build a monolithic 11 story / 6 story building that covers the entire block and still blocks their view / light?
