Nice catch, Mark.  That photo also shows the pre-1966 Woodland Street Bridge, the then-newly opened Victory Memorial Bridge, and it even shows the old Meridian-So. Third Street viaduct, prior to its being razed, along with the Spring Street RR overpass, before the re-alignment with North Fifth.

Another view of that far background shown from a different vantage, posted March 2015.

I recall you posting that East photo before, Rookzie.  It's shocking how much of that area was obliterated by the I-24/Ellington/Spring Street clover leaf nonsense.

"Non-sense"? !?!  No-o-o...! (you think!)

Quite fulfilling, wasn't it, to just rip through a swath of well-occupied core and slice through along side the railroad (L&N), as if it were the L&N's fault to start.  Why not just follow the railroad for the most part, since it already has "butchered" the northeast urbanized sector.  Fact is, the city developed around those particular tracks, during the days even before electric streetcars and horse-drawn cars on rails.  But unlike the rails which methodically convey as a continuum, the Ellington/Spring St. complex transformed a low-elevation drainage run-off swail into nothing more than a "catch-basin" of traffic, with drivers left to fend for themselves at that terminal point.

this view point will be greatly changed over the next few years...

Five new towers... JWM, Cambria, 5&B Apartments, 5&B Offices, Hyatt Regency.  Speaking of, any renderings proffered on that one?  I see it landed on the list of 30 Largest Hotel projects in the country. Any news?

^ ^ ^ Actually, there could be 4 more: Buckingham in Gulch, Embassy Suites, additional boutique hotel next to Embassy, and Broadstone Gulch.  Also, there could be several more towers on the other side of MCC (Patel hotel lot, Mainland's dual tower hypothetical), and, perhaps that hotel or condo tower along Broadway as part of the Bridgestone Arena lot development.  So, between those mentioned above and this list, it could be as many as 14 over the next decade...plus several more prime parking lots just begging for something special. Even if some of them don't transpire, this view will all look significantly different, that's for sure.

I would imagine there are a lot of investors who are anxious to see how quickly the Element, SoBro and Skyhouse fill up.  If the demand is high...I can imagine a few more of these towers will come to fruition.

And with over 900 new jobs being announced just this week between 3 different employers moving into downtown, there is going to be demand for many of these residential units going in within a few miles.

The river is a beautiful shade of baby poop/split pea soup green in that shot!  ha...In all seriousness though, that's a magnificent shot.  It's pretty amazing to think about the fact that basically everything to the left of The Renaissance Hotel in that shot didn't exist ten years ago.  It provides kind of an interesting contrast to the downtown cluster on the right which hasn't changed from this angle for twenty years.

And think with Bridgestone JW Marriott, 505 added to this

I remember when this was the skyline for years
