I forget how far, but they are digging out the basement to be an occupied floor for restrooms and support spaces. AJ Capital is a pretty decent steward with their projects I would say.

Black Market Bar + Grill out of Birmingham, AL will open its first Tennessee location in Printer's Alley later this spring.  No word on the exact address.

Not impressed....Printers Alley deserves better.

What Printers Alley needs more of are live music venues-what would be nice is if some enterprising entrepreneur would bring back the Black Poodle, The Carousel and the Voodoo Room.

Is Skull's still there?  Only went once years ago, but I recall it was a very entertaining evening and food surprisingly good.

Skull's is still there....in an updated form from when I was younger but what they've got going on there should be a template for the rest of the Alley.

Come to think of it, I think this bar might do well on 2nd Avenue and could be a part of its rebirth.

A bit more info on the Black Market Bar + Grill (see last Tuesday's post): It will be on the ground floor level of 209 Printers Alley with 5,500 sq. ft. of space. This is the same structure that has The Whiskey Shot and Majestic Lofts on the upper floors.

Co-owner George Cowgill’s love of punk rock, comic books, movies and local art comes alive inside of Black Market Bar + Grill. Over the years, the bar has been ranked as the 22^nd best dive bar in the U.S., fourth best bar in Alabama and is known for their Sunday brunch.

Set to be open seven days a week, Black Market offers a menu with lots of shareables like the Greek egg rolls, potato skins and wings as well as salads, and a variety of burgers, sandwiches and pastas. 

Black Market hopes to not only welcome tourists, but build a local customer base as well.

No opening date has been announced yet.

@smeagolsfree Are there any restrictions against building on the parking lot on Union between 4th and 5th?  Just noticed it for the first time today and curious as to why it's still there in such an older part of downtown.

Until the recent closure of the Arcade Post Office, that lot was for USPS vehicles. I don’t know if that property ownership goes to the new Arcade holders. It’s certainly prime real estate and could be used for good small scale infill.

That lot was one of the parcels included in the Bill of Sale for the Arcade, so the new owners could include it in their redevelopment to some degree.

Now that you mention it, wasn’t there some sort of mini park included in some of the redevelopment plans? I’d forgotten about it until now, but I think there was something along those lines announced.
