  1. Imagine what it might look like if Oracle, making good on its promise to make Nashville its Global HQ, decided to build office towers in the Gulch instead of a low rise campus on the East Bank. Now imagine if the River North developers decided to follow suit and built high rise condos and apartments in the Gulch. Or how about Midtown? West End Ave would begin to look more like Peachtree Street in Atlanta's Midtown. Just sayin if Oracle follows through Nashville is going up a another notch.
  2. Yeah, the traffic lights with their supporting beams have been there since the Inner Loop was first built over 50 years ago. It's not just Church Street but Broadway, Demonbreun Street and Charlotte all need their traffic lights replaced.
  3. They will need to sell a boatload of chicken to make this work. Not making money from alcohol sales on Broadway is gonna make it tough for them. And they will have to pay their staff very well also as they, unlike their coworkers in the clubs, won't be making tips.
  4. What happened to the aircargo building that was there....has it been relocated?
  5. I'm thinking if this is real this could jumpstart some residential developments that have been on shaky ground in terms of funding......just because if Oracle goes bigtime in Nashville some others might want to join in.
  6. It takes about 4.5 hours for me to get from suburban Cincinnati to my brother's house in Williamson Co. It would take about that long to drive to CVG 90 minutes before departure, then about a 45 minute flight then maybe 5-10 minute taxi to the gate, then about 20 minutes or so picking up checked luggage then my brother picking me up and fighting the traffic from Donelson to Brentwood. I might just stick to driving it....it's more scenic that way!
  7. CVG is Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky-GSP is Greenville-Spartanburg.
  8. The first time I went to Canada I went to "the Peg". It was the end of October and they were having a warm spell. One evening I was in my hotel room and turned on the local news. The weather segment came on and the weatherman said "chance of snow this weekend-get ready for it for the next 6 months." I was outta there the next day. That aside, Winnipeg is quite a nice city.
  9. Hope this happens......awfully ambitious for Dickerson Pike! If it goes forward at some point someone is going to buy out those remaining trailer parks and Dickerson Pike will have pretty much transformed itself. Hopefully if that happens though some accommodation will be made for some affordable housing in the area-I'm thinking about all the hospitality workers downtown. This is very convenient to downtown.
  10. You could possibly do a BRT line down the middle of Murfreesboro Rd-where it would start and end....not sure.
  11. As a former employee of Hilton, I can only say well done! Particularly like the front desk/lobby area. Just a thought, how about a bar area called the Cornelia Fort Lounge? Or maybe since the airpark is closed just rename the entire airport Cornelia Fort International Airport?
  12. It would have to be cleaned up no matter if it becomes greenspace or a residential/office development. Hopefully the city will find a way to relocate it out to Cockrill Bend somewhere and they can find a better use for that location.
  13. Thousands of people are living in downtown....thousands more will be moving in-there will be a demand for green space that people want to enjoy without having to get in their cars and drive. Most of the people living in downtown are committing themselves to a life that is as car free as possible-if some space for leisure and recreation isn't set aside then downtown's popularity for residential living will begin to wane if people cannot access green space without having to drive to it. With a lot of folks working from home these days being close to an office isn't a necessity so downtown in order to stay a viable place for urban living needs a full range of amenities...this is why Manhattan has Central Park. And that is why Nashville needs its own Central Park-and no. Bicentennial Mall does not qualify-not nearly big enough, particularly if the Gulch gets maxed out as an urban neighborhood. Then we are talking about tens of thousands of downtown residents. The interesting corollary to this would be by setting aside some land for greenspace development you end up restricting the available land for development-the end result is by doing so developers in Nashville will be forced to do the same thing that developers in Manhattan were forced to do a while back, that is....wait for it....build taller buildings! So Nashville would end up with a bigger and taller skyline, downtown folks would have a bigger place to play and lo and behold everybody walks away a winner. With more greenspace you could have more festivals downtown like a BBQ fest, Hot Chicken festival and maybe persuade the Kurdish community to have its annual NowRuz (Persian New Year) festival downtown. Just sayin'.
  14. Now we're talkin....relocate the other business between there and Shelby Bottoms and you've got green space from the stadium to the now closed Cornelia Fort Airport.
  15. I practically grew up in Belle Meade Plaza-lots of fond memories, from Hubert Humphrey campaigning there to the great cheeseburgers at Wilson Quick drugstore. But with the way Nashville is growing, this change is inevitable. The property is just too valuable to remain as is.
  16. I believe that is Genesco's new headquarters since their old one is being torn down to make way for the runway extension.
  17. Looking at a map, the southbound CSX line in East Nashville diverges and the southeast line goes over the Cumberland at Shelby Park. The southwest line going over the Cumberland presumably is just for trains headed southwest towards Memphis but that traffic could be rerouted and sent on the southeast line. Then, around Trevecca U. they could build a little connector line so the southwest bound trains could head back in that direction via downtown past Union Station. Some property would have to bought and a connector built but it seems doable.
  18. Would have been nice if the developers would have built the original facade back as part of their renovation.
  19. It would be nice if they could consolidate the functions in both those buildings into a smaller facility on 3rd Ave right behind the current buildings. 3rd Ave isn't quite the historical district 2nd Ave is and I am worried that after all the renovation work is done some other mentally messed up individual might try and finish what the first guy started. This is the world we live in now.
  20. That happened in 1985 when I was working for BWSC downtown.....almost 40 years ago! It would be nice if someone like the Ingrams or some other family of means would step in and rebuild that block-along with the bombed out buildings- exactly as they were. There is no reason not to (some European cities did the same thing after WW2) and it would greatly enhance 2nd Avenues' rebirth-more than the current renovation work, I think.
  21. I kinda like having the street vendors there....particularly the ones selling hot dogs, gyros...etc. But Lower Broad does get crowded so it would probably be best to keep them just off Broadway...3rd-4th Avenues and also have them on Commerce Street where the foot traffic isn't as heavy and the sidewalks are wide. The food vendors perform a useful function in that food consumption after a night out drinking can help folks sober up-necessary in a car culture such as ours.
