The Bad News Report

You know, what really makes my blood boil about HB2 is not the assault on me as a gay man or on transgender friends & colleagues, bad though that is.

It's the bare-knuckle backhand across Charlotte's face.

I shake with anger every time I think about what these scummy cretins have done to the city I love.

You'd think a city that generates some 30% of the state's GDP and is the creation of bootstraps, red clay, luck and gumption would be something to celebrate and respect in North Carolina.

Not backhand.

Well I think the overt assault on th LGBT community is pretty damn pathetic.  I think what's more pathetic is the fact that they are lying about the intent of the law. They say it has nothing to do with discrimination but even the most casual observer would have to say this law's entire intent is to codify bigotry.  The only thing worse than a bigot is a bigot who is also a liar.

Perhaps what burns me up the most though, is the fact that the fallout from this has impacted Charlotte the most, and I am convinced all the Apodacas, Moores, and Bergers in the SA are thrilled it's happening.  I would be willing to wager that those assholes in Raleigh are ecstatic that not only could they again punish Charlotte for exercising its right to local control, but also that the business community is now punishing Charlotte because of their actions. These people have been hell bent on destroying our city ever since they first took office.  In their minds Charlotte has gotten too big for its britches and needs to be brought down a notch.  I'll bet if a company like PayPal was to leave one of the rural districts because of HB2 they wouldn't be so happy. But because it's Charlotte that is disproportionately feeling the effects of their utter buffoonery, I imagine they are ready to double-down on the law.

I think by the time the Federal Govt. gets done with the HB2 law the GA will wish they had stayed at home that 12 hours.

HB2 goes against Federal law.  Charlotte did not have to pass a restroom law because it was already federal law already.

Actually Federal Law DOES NOT apply to LGBT...The Equality Act is currently stalled in Congress

No, federal agencies interpret Title VII as prohibiting discrimination on the bases of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Quote:
The federal agency that enforces anti-discrimination laws in workplaces told BuzzFeed News it “stands ready” to investigate complaints from transgender employees in North Carolina — where a new law bans transgender people from government building restrooms that match their gender identity.

That sort of restriction in workplaces is prohibited by federal law, said Chai Feldblum, one of five members of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

The agency held last year that banning a transgender employee from restrooms matching their gender in workplaces with 15 or more workers violates Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Feldblum and another EEOC official told BuzzFeed News that federal law supersedes local and state laws.

DOJ:

Quote:
Lynch also noted — to the applause of the audience — the Justice Department now interprets the gender protections in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act to cover anti-trans discrimination.

Lynch says country in 'national awakening' on LGBT rights

FRANKFURT, April 12 (Reuters) - Deutsche Bank is freezing plans to create 250 new jobs at its Cary, North Carolina, location after the state passed a controversial law targeting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) citizens.

"We take our commitment to building inclusive work environments seriously," John Cryan, the chief executive of Germany's largest lender, said in a statement on Tuesday.

^^ We REALLY need Raleigh to start getting hit hard with this kind of stuff.  Charlotte is the one that tried to change the law, only to face the most backlash when the state overturned it. Only when it starts to effect the triangle will anyone in the GA give a crap.

They won't care then either. it'll only be when it starts to effect rural eastern NC towns and Counties. Like if they Feds stripped 95 corridor funding, then there'd be a problem.

What people are seeing now is North Carolina the way it really is. This has been the program forever, even when nominal "liberals" in charge; in the countryside and backwaters, it's all machine politics, old money families, and "knowing your place." Bootstraps, red clay, luck and gumption have never been part of the program. Read W.J. Cash's The Mind of the South.

How many racist, xenophobic companies have since announced their expansion into NC?

Is the Billy Graham Library bringing additional jobs? Is a Jim Baker and Tammy Faye Library going to open?

Actually the late Tammy Faye Baker Mesner was very popular in the LGBT community going back to the early 90's.  Was very supportive of the community from what I know!  Not sure about her ex husband  Jim, who's been somewhat in the limelight since his release from federal prison.

McCrory just signed executive order # 93 which expands the state's employment policy to cover sexual orientation and gender identity.    This only covers state employees though.

While I am glad Pat the the absolute minimum he could to right this wrong he really shot himself in the foot politically. His executive order did nothing to satisfy those on the left (and middle) while simultaneously making the right feel like he sold them out. He did the impossible, more people hate him today than hated him yesterday.

I get the feeling we are gonna see Pat working at the airport Cinnabon come January.

We need a TV ad with the most macho-looking pre-op transgendered male asking the GOP if they are OK with him having to use the woman's bathroom with their wives, daughters, mothers, girlfriends, etc...  THE GOP is gearing up to instill fear and misinformation to defeat the Democratic threat to their power.

Or just have RuPaul in this "regalia" sashay into the men's room during a Senate break at the General Assembly building....now that would be a hoot!

Surely this could be organized. I would totally contribute to this cause!

Which is why I long ago came to believe that Charlotte and North Carolina have nothing in common beyond the 'N.' and the 'C.'

I don't think Cinnabon is willing to take that risk.

From The New York Times, Wednesday, April 13, 2016

"NORTH CAROLINA GOVERNOR TRIES TO STEP BACK FROM BIAS LAW," by Richard Fausset and Alan Blinder.

Right click "open link in new tab"

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/13/us/north-carolina-governor-pat-mccrory.html

Excerpts:  "'Governor McCrory's actions today are a poor effort to save face after his sweeping attacks on the L.G.B.T. community, and they fall far short of correcting the damage done'" by the law, Sarah Preston, the acting excecutive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina, said in a statement on Tuesday."

State Representive Darren G. Jackson, a Democrat from Wake County, said: "'I think it's an attempt to divert attention from a full repeal effort," and the new law "'has taken a big economic toll on North Carolina.'"
