Where exactly is this thing going to be? Are they extending Berkeley to Pearl Park way as part of the redevelopment? The Agenda article says it's going to be by Trader Joe's at PPW and Kenilworth.

the new hotel is going on the site of the old Realtors Association building and between the new Canopy Real estate building and the 2 medical office buildings.  

One thing many may not know is how big  Canopy the old Carolina MLS is now. They operate the MLS for greater Charlotte region deep into SC now with the Piedmont MLS merger, the Unifour region Caldwell, Catawba, Burke counties,  Asheville Hendersonville area and now a merger is proposed with Haywood County which is where Waynesville is.  Just as small banks are merging to pay for technology same goes for the smaller Multiple Listing services.   They are rolling up small ones several times  a year.

Here is today's (11/07/19) CBJ story regarding the Hilton Hotel and 9-story Midtown office building.

Excerpts:  "The next phase of development at Pappas Properties project in midtown Charlotte will include a hotel and a nine-story office building with ground-floor retail space. A 150-room Tapestry Collection by Hilton hotel, an upscale brand for the hotelier, and a building with up to 210,000 square feet of office space and 20,000 square feet of retail — likely restaurants — are planned at Pappas' 7-acre project near the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association headquarters."  ... "The $40 million hotel, which will have a name unique to Charlotte, will be developed on the site of the former CRRA headquarters, at Berkeley Avenue and Pearl Park Way.  The office building is slated for the corner of Kenilworth Avenue and Pearl Park Way."  ... "Construction on the hotel and the office building is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2020, around the time when the first phase of the Atrium project will deliver." ...  "The Tapestry Collection hotel will include a "stylish" design, "top-flight" amenities and a rooftop bar, according to Pappas Properties. Hilton launched Tapestry in 2017 — the midtown hotel would be the first in Charlotte for the brand.   It would also represent the first hotel for the midtown area."

Yes the high transmission wires go to a substation to provides most of uptown with power.

It looks like a medical campus, not a neighborhood... which given the main tenants on site, looks to be correct. It looks like a nice place for somebody to grab lunch though after a doctor's appointment and 8 hours of fasting.

I'm very excited, though, about the connection of Pearl Park Way to Baxter (I wish they'd just name the entire route Baxter...sigh...), which will re-connect that area, and Midtown Park and its environs across Kenilworth, to South McDowell. (My dream is that they'll eventually straighten the Baxter/Pearl Park route, taking it behind the current Charlottetown Terrace building, creating a traditional, relatively straight neighborhood street--maybe when the building is demolished one day...) But even with the soon-to-be curved route, it'll re-connect that area, and having two parks as destinations along it hopefully that will genuinely encourage people from NE Dilworth and Cherry to walk over and through.

The city has long term dreams of taking Euclid over 277 (but which requires the Duke substation there to be relocated), connecting it to Stonewall and maybe an Alexander fragment in Ward 2, and if that ever occurs, hopefully the NW end of Baxter would then be tied to Royal or even extended to Euclid.  So much of what the city plans for future street connections aren't public, they just have to be gleaned from approved rezonings and planning maps, but in general from what I can tell they seem to be doing a fairly proactive and logical job of it, so I don't think it's crazy to think they might have longer term plans to try and restore the areas west of this development to something resembling a real neighborhood street grid. The current recognition of the Brooklyn area's annihilation and attempts at beginnings to un-do it provide additional, feeble support for this hope...     

So, hopefully, this is just a beginning.

Aside from rush hour or the Trader Joe's garage, it's not too bad. Better than South Blvd or P-M anyway.

I always say that parcel should be a huge hotel, and get rid of that damn wendys and replace it with some mixed use building.

Can’t remember if this was mentioned earlier but according to Charlotte Agenda, the West Elm Store is closing the Met location.  Rumors were that they’d have both south end and that one but apparently that’s not the case
