Chris, I would reach out to Freddie since you live in the district and relate what happened to you and express you outrage. It’s about time we take our streets back from the street thugs that seem to be roaming around. I think a lot of these folks are just out of town drunk hellions that are out of control. MPD has not got a handle on the situation and they are playing with the kid gloves on and really need to enforce the laws on the books. This is coming from the chief and the mayor not to piss of the tourist I will bet, but this needs to be brought into the light. The homeless guy that was attacked, the guy from Florida we heard about, but how many like you have we not heard about.

Sounds like someone needs to take a deep dive into MPD crime reports and expose them to the public.

MPD has very limited resources.  Every time they arrest (someone it takes an officer off the streets for two hours.   The pending calls then start backing up, and people wonder why it takes so long for an officer to respond when their car is broken into.  Nashville needs to start keeping actual violent  criminals behind bars.

Limited compared to what? The only other service that receives more of Metro Nashville's budget is Metro Nashville Public Schools. Of a total $2,646,580,300 budget, 20.40% goes to Public Safety & Justice. 38.33% to education. 13.61% to debt service. 12.86% to general government. 4.67% to infrastructure and transportation. 4.37% to health and social services. 4.08% to recreation and culture.  I can't do math but 20.40% of more than 2 and a half billion dollars is, like, a lot.

Do you know what the 20% for safety includes? I would assume police and fire; what about ambulance, animal control, etc? Are they part of Safety or other?

Decisions must always be made how best to allocate finite public resources. I don't know what nashcan is referring to, but I figured I could at least provide a bit of data as opposed to anecdotes and hearsay.

Sometimes it’s difficult to translate thoughts into posts in this environment, but that’s pretty close to what I meant.   Each sector has a certain amount of patrol officers on any given shift (A,B,C).  There are also special commands such as additional officers on lower broad on the weekends, but even then it gets very very busy with drunk and disorderly calls.    The alcohol related incidents downtown stretch both PD and FD resources really thin.  Outside of the tourist areas is a whole other ballgame with increasing crime and drug overdoses.

The head of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Isabel Guzman, was in Nashville yesterday to meet with a group of Nashville lenders (Pinnacle Bank, Pathway Lending, Studio Bank, etc.)  and small businesses (like Rudy's Jazz Room, north Nashville Jefferson St. entities, etc. that received Covid-19 relief aid from the federal government) to discuss the changes to SBA's Economic Impact Disaster Loans that take effect Oct. 8th.  More businesses will now be able to borrow up to $2 million (quadruple the former limit) via low-interest loans.

She did an interview with NBJ.  Here are some highlights:

This is your first time in Nashville. What are your first impressions? Very impressed, just by the lively culture that exists along your main thoroughfares and just the energy that I've encountered through a lot of leaders in the ecosystem. There's so much entrepreneurial enthusiasm and activity, and hope for the future.

What are you looking to hear from the business owners you'll meet today? As we hope for the end of Covid, as we see our vaccination rates going up, we want to make sure that we're positioning the SBA to help our businesses in the situations that they're in now. We do lending, we have investments, we channel innovative grants from the federal government and provide technical assistance — and we want to make sure that our support is tailored to meet them where they are.

The SBA is having an enormous impact: We've grown from a $40 billion output to over a trillion [in Covid aid]. It's been astronomical. The PPP loans are really critical to keeping businesses. The economic injury disaster loans, or EIDL — which are still available — have been also critical to lengthening that term of survival, because obviously we've been battling Covid for so long. For our businesses, I'm hopeful for many of them that they've been able to survive with this added relief, but there are still challenges.

What's a big idea kicking around in your head that you want to tackle? There are gaps in capital for our small businesses, whether you're an early stage innovator and you can't access venture or you're an everyday, Main Street business that can't get that small dollar loan. The SBA is in the business of trying to de-risk small business and increase investment in our small businesses. Expanding our programs so that we can directly provide services to small businesses and innovative startups — I think that really critical, as well as the revenue side of the equation. We've seen a decline in small government contractors over the past 10 years. We want to make sure that they can do business with the largest buyer in the world — the federal government — and that they can have come up with an idea and figure out how to commercialize it in markets around the world.

Side note:  This is pure coincidence, but I happened upon Stones tickets in Pittsburgh last weekend from my son. I was 8 when Some Girls came out and got the album for my birthday. Played the heck out of that through the next year, but I never became a die hard fan. Always appreciated their sound and contribution to music. Ther only concert I ever saw was when the came to Nashville (Vandy) in October 1997 (Bridges to Babylon).  This is a long way of saying I never expected to go to another Stones concert, but there I was at Heinz field last Saturday night. I have to say though that the appeal over recent years has been their 'eternal youth'.  But I was disabused of that last week when (No Kidding) there were so many people there with walkers or canes, and no one appeared to be under the age of 65. I'm 51 now and know I'm too old for loud concerts. Nevertheless, it was a bittersweet and mostly enjoyable show. I miss Charlie!

The comments are interesting. Split between the ‘yeah we hate those things too!’ crowd and the ‘traffic is bad because of the Stones’ crowd. The mobile party scene really just doesn’t impact some people. I am not one of those people.

From the Stones concert last night. Picture quality blows, but you get the idea. Towards the end of the concert, Jagger says "I first came to Nashville in 1964...it was such a small town then. God, what a big city Nashville has become! It's so good to be back."  They played 'Dead Flowers' as an homage to country music, and killed.

Jagger said "I had a good time last night, I  went to Printers Alley and sang ‘Honky Tonk Women’ in a karaoke bar. I crashed a bachelorette party on a pedal tavern. They loved my Goo Goo Clusters. We all ended up at the Wild Beaver riding a mechanical bull."  Good times, LOL.

Nissan was value engineered and built on the cheap in order to pass voting referendum, but it’s not the ugliest stadium in the NFL, particularly on the inside of the stadium. Look at Buffalo, Jacksonville, Washington for ugly. 
 

With some common sense and exciting renovations plus mixed-use development surrounding the stadium, Nissan Stadium complex will be top 15 for a game day experience.

Wanted to go to this show badly, but was at Disney instead.  Dead Flowers...that's awesome...could only have been topped by Far Away Eyes and its slide guitar.
