Hope that 70 story tower is truth and not something said when drunk. I like the Bank of America Tower, But it's not very tall. I sense this may be the future headquarters of Wells Fargo if they expand even more because of the failing headquarters in San Fransisco (Very High prices over there, Many Problems, Would be cheaper to be Headquartered in CLT). Just pure speculation, Either way I have heard that CLT has a strong pipeline of many decently sized buildings. Nothing extraordinary but they will densify for sure.

RDF I thought said BofA could be building a 20-30 floor tower over on North Tryon.  But it has to be BofA or Wells for a tower that large. Even though I don't consider that realistic, it's the only 2 that makes sense.

Now that I have learned that Anchorage has it I am sure we will get one soon.

Anyone have any updates on this? I'm guessing it fell through.

Charlotte Stories is garbage. I vaguely recall that the news a few years ago. They were going to build it down by the river or something, but it went nowhere.

You sure he didn't say "17" and not "70" ? I would believe 17.

Take this for what it is worth, was having a beer with a buddy who works in commercial construction and he said his contact in the city’s permit office told him there are more projects than ever in their pipeline for review - including a 70 floor tower on North Tryon.  I immediately responded there’s no way because I haven’t heard a word of it on UP.  RDF/Jayvee...y’all holding out on us?

^^ In regards, Yes, a POSSIBLE proposed 70 story tower. If his friend was not drunk and it’s the truth.

I was concerned too, but the freeway overpass is built up fairly high there.  I am thinking the bulk of the facility will be well below the freeway overpass; with maybe just a portion of it rising above the freeway overpass.

Pic 1: notice the slope of the tree line.  The land slopes down well below the freeway overpass.

Pic 2: from the freeway, notice the treeline barely reaches up above street level, if you will.

TLDR: I think a big chunk of the facility will be hidden.

Overcash Demmit has a project in their portfolio called 7th Street Lifestyle Storage...I assume this is the project.

It's better for the city to keep people living in smaller urban places, and storing winter clothes or seasonal sports gear elsewhere.   People spend a lot of societal resources on commuting just to have a garage big enough for that type of stuff.

Regardless, I'm satisfied based on the height and angles that it won't affect the skyline view from Central Ave bridge or the 74 to 277 Belk interchange.   It's not my favorite location for it, but as someone pointed out a few pages ago, the freeway noise makes it sub-ideal for a residential project.   My big shock was that I thought it was public right of way land that would stay green.

Here is a new North Tryon plan website not sure I have seen this before  http://northtryon.org/

the plan shows it saving Hall House (as a hotel) no surprise there and a tower possibly for BofA since they owned the land with a pyramid or something on top.  I am sure that is a conceptual plan.

I actually always liked the way Blumenthal looked along Tryon Street as it is but this does look pretty fancy.  My main question is are they going to make the 5th street side going towards College Street any more appealing?  It looks as if they're adding a few things but not much.

It looks lovely, It’s not highly needed but it will definitely make it look a lot less bland.

That Lobby is so tiny that they have to use those tiny kiosks for refreshments. If they add an additional large amount of square footage they have space for a cafe. Its hugely needed

That stretch of wall and doors backs up directly to the entry way to the box seating, it pretty much cannot be touched.

Is the real or just visionary ?

Not necessary the most current design, got word it was on the older side. The plan to do this is very real, I just think fund raising is in the works.

Okay put this in the rumor mill but someone else on this board mentioned this too.  I heard from a long time BofA employee that 2 towers were planned he thought for N Tryon. One smaller one like we think might happen on N Tryon at 8th (the Hall House block) and he mentioned a 100 plus story tower.   He was sober and this was in the morning.  But someone else on this board posted something about that I can't find the post now.    He also said BofA has about 23,000 employees here not sure about that does anyone know?  They are always saying 15,000 or so.   I have no idea if any of this right but I do believe the smaller tower on that block (smaller may mean 15-20)   anyone have thoughts on this and don't shoot the messenger.
