I think it has to do with contemporary architecture more than anything else. People hate it. All I hear is how ugly all the new apartments are, and I've had multiple conversations with people who independently agree that they will be "throw away" buildings in 20 years.

Me too, including with many developers who believe the stick built apartments will have the same lifespan as a house cat.

Any updates on the Casino near Kings Mountain? Would be good if it went through, especially for that area.

Wrong thread and it ain’t happening any time soon. One thing I actually have a little inside knowledge on.  I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Sorry about the thread and darn it! I would’ve  loved for a Hard Rock Hotel. Eh, Maybe we’ll get a Cafe soon.

I hope not. Less than mediocre food, a big chain, a product of bygone era, that is thankfully, no longer the bellwether of a cities status as a tourist destination.

Here is how Charlotte's uptown parking compares to other major cities.  You can tell which ones have very vibrant urban centers like Charlotte and those without.   Interesting.  On a side note I was shocked at the parking prices in downtown LA and they were a lot more than this study indicated.   https://www.parkopedia.com/static/reports/ppa_parkopedia_top40_us_cities_parkingindex2018.pdf

My apologies for being so far behind. I sure hope they expand even further given the fact that the news is reporting on it and gave 10 tips on Shake Shack, Might I add it hasn't even opened yet nor has an opening date. Sure hope it's successful although with the news reporting on it I'm sure it won't have any issues, Especially on Park Rd.

I’ll admit, I never got the buzz of Old buildings until I was walking around DC again. Only thing I wish for is more street retail reguardless of the buildings age.

Have you been to Georgetown? My favorite part of DC to walk around in.

It's interesting to see the contrasts between the framing of parking and traffic. Almost always, suburban residents complain about traffic and parking "problems" if you can't drive to any area without stopping and immediately park upon arriving there. If you look at metrics of metropolitan success, however, successful places have more traffic and "worse" parking. It's like the ever-famous Yogi Berra quote.

There are so many beautiful neighborhoods in DC.  Walking through the residential areas of Georgetown is indeed fantastic.  It oozes with charm at every turn and is a must-see.  I also love Kalorama,  Embassy Row along Massachusetts Avenue, Capitol Hill, Logan Circle, and Old Town Alexandria across the river, among others.  Then venturing a bit away from DC, Annapolis, Maryland is stunning!

LA is the worst of both worlds. It's hell to drive anywhere. But 100 miles of light rail is just a drop in the bucket in a metro so vast.

I would love to see something of substantial height be built on the parking lot that is next to the NASCAR HQ, in front of 550 Stonewall. That would make the approach to Caldwell from South Blvd appear much more dense. Plenty of potential along Caldwell for future dev.
