Now that I have learned that Anchorage has it I am sure we will get one soon.

Anyone have any updates on this? I'm guessing it fell through.

Take this for what it is worth, was having a beer with a buddy who works in commercial construction and he said his contact in the city’s permit office told him there are more projects than ever in their pipeline for review - including a 70 floor tower on North Tryon.  I immediately responded there’s no way because I haven’t heard a word of it on UP.  RDF/Jayvee...y’all holding out on us?

^^^ I know of no such 70 story tower and could not even think he would build something that tall right now.  That would be too many apartments with all that is in the pipeline, an office tower of that height would need an anchor and I don't see that either, condo tower with that many condos couldnt get financing.

That all being said I do believe there are more projects for review in the pipeline.  That I truly believe.    Bank of America will probably anchor another tower on N Tryon as part of the Library Hall House Police station blocks however I would not believe it would be anywhere that tall.   It is indeed exciting times in Charlotte if you like construction especially uptown but next up to be announced should be 401 South Graham mixed used tower.

You need to go get your buddy drunk and get more info about this 70 story ASAP!

I actually thought this casino approval process was still pending through the Bureau of Indian Affairs? Does anyone still have some insight?  Seems like it was a long process for the Cherokee nation to get their applications for casinos back in the early 90's.

The day a 70 floor tower is announced on north Tryon, is the day we can say without any uncertainty that the boom is over. I know of 3 more projects in the pipeline. None above 35 floors.

Only BofA would build a 70 floor tower. Which I don’t see. I would’ve guessed the Trumps as they were looking at North Tryon supposedly a while ago after Trump CLT fell threw

There’s a few cities with some crazy proposals out there, so I wouldn’t rule it out. Detroit, Denver and Portland to name a few

While I do love BOA’s HQ, it’s a little irksome that Atlanta’s and NY’s BOA buildings are taller. I’m sure there’s a good reason, but it would have been nice. Maybe one day they’ll consolidate a bit into a bigger tower.

Someone told me the other day that Charlotte was the third city with the most tourists in the South after Atlanta and Orlando. Don't know how factual that is but it isn't the first time I've heard it.

I’m not going to bother to fact check, but I’d assume that Austin, Nashville, Miami, literally every city in Florida, Houston, etc. would get more tourism than Charlotte. I’d be completely bewildered if that were true.

I mean't the southeast, But I'm sure Charlotte's pretty high up there. But I agree, I don't know how truthful that is. I just hope we become more of a destination in the Future.

No way. I love Charlotte, but we aren’t even in the top ten in the SE. Leaving out TX, the “Southeast” is represented 8 times in TripAdvisor’s list of the Top 25 in America, none of which are Charlotte.

#6 Orlando

#10 Key West

#11 New Orleans

#14 Charleston, SC

#16 Savannah

#18 Nashville (I’d consider that SE)

#21 Asheville (didn’t expect that one)

#24 Miami Beach

I’d expect Knoxville, Atlanta, Biloxi, and pretty much every decent sized city with a beach in Florida to be listed above Charlotte as well.

Aside from this “whose is bigger” list though, I’d certainly say Charlotte would be on the “most improved” list.

Didn’t expect Asheville so low?

Oh well, I’m sure as we grow in time we will gain in tourisim, Much like Atlanta.

First we would need a reason for tourists to come over those other cities.  We need to create a pedestrian entertainment / gastro district. That would make us stand out.

^^^ That list is how people feel about Charlotte as a tourist destination but not the money involved.  Major cities of Florida (and Key West is not one of them) Atlanta, New Orleans and Nashville but Charlotte is by FAR  the largest tourism dollar spot in NC mainly of course on business travelers.  We will never have the charm of Charleston or a Savannah but we can compete.

Hope that 70 story tower is truth and not something said when drunk. I like the Bank of America Tower, But it's not very tall. I sense this may be the future headquarters of Wells Fargo if they expand even more because of the failing headquarters in San Fransisco (Very High prices over there, Many Problems, Would be cheaper to be Headquartered in CLT). Just pure speculation, Either way I have heard that CLT has a strong pipeline of many decently sized buildings. Nothing extraordinary but they will densify for sure.

Didn’t expect it to be nationally ranked. I mean Asheville certainly has a lot going for it. But of all the cities in America I didn’t expect it to be in the Top 25.

Can't imagine why not. Its come light years in a decade. Its a picturesque mountain town with a better food scene than every city in the south outside of Charleston. Its beer scene per capita rivals any city in the country. Its an outdoor lovers paradise and it has the largest house in the country within its reach. Walking around its astounding how many hotels are being built. Its a city very much so on the up and up.
