The way its shaping up, I am fine with a delay. Don't want them to rush the final steps when its looking so great so far.

I've been mulling what kind of unforeseen conditions they could have possibly run into. Apart from bad chemicals in the soil - which would be pretty serious - I can't really figure it out.

When's the forcasted completion date for bb&t park? I've been assuming it would be early '14

All major, cosmetic an structural work is scheduled to be done by Christmas. That way the have 3-4 months to get it perfect for opening day.

Polluted soil is quite a likely scenario given the gas station and other industrial uses here.   It did seem to creep at the beginning, so maybe that was the problem.  

 

Comparing to the baseball stadium is a little unfair, as they are clearly managing that project for a quicker turn around given the deadlines of the baseball season.  The park does not have a hard deadline to drive for, so they may have gotten a little lazier in managing the project strictly, or else lowered some costs by being a little more lenient with contractors on their timelines.  

 

I think the most likely is that last one, that they gave their contractors more time as a cost savings.

 

It is ashame, though, that the park can not be used as much this summer.

I'm not too worried about missing the summer swealter, to be honest.  Lest we forget that it doesn't get cold here until late Nov./early Dec.  Hell, we had Thanksgiving on our back deck a few years ago!  I think it will be quite nice during the fall season.

I did see that some of the new concrete planter boxes had cracked because the ground underneath had given way. I’ll try to get some pics in the next couple of days.

Yep. Delay is due to the fact that it rained pretty much all of March and April.

That's cool.  I always split the full photo so I don't mess up the page width too badly.  Guess I don't know how to post a thumbnail or whatever.  That color correction is really nice, too.
