I was going to try and work on this more this weekend and realize that this is a first effort. This is a rendition of future and under construction towers in the downtown and possible East Bank area.

Some SoBro massing.  Two points: 1) Practically every building in this shot did not exist 8 years ago. 2) That massive blank wall on the back of the parking garage for SoBro Apartment building will REALLY need some of that new wall art going around.  It could not only be the largest painting downtown, but it could be a quite popular photo-op because of it's proximity to all the tourist foot-traffic within a block or two.  Smeagolsfree made the fun suggestion of the Outlaw Country gang of Waylon, Willie, Johnny, Kris, and Merle. When I drove by earlier this morning, I saw that they whole side had been painted white---so perhaps something is brewing.

Two full buildings and the backside of a third gone, so, essentially three buildings that had fronted the west side of the alley. They are going to rebuild them, but I can't imagine the alley ever having the funk and charm it once had.

As of this morning, the part of the one with the white roof is gone as well. They were very busy last evening!  They are planning at least to put the facade of that middle building back, but who knows what the Alley will look like, I've not seen any drawings for that side of the buildings.

TBT: Hillsboro Village from 51 years ago.  It's about 75% the same structures....pretty good average covering five decades! 

All of these buildings are still with us. Looking NW from interchange of Belcourt Ave. and 21st Ave. South:

The original Pancake Panty building before it was added-on-to in the adjoining parking lot. The Gulf station structure underneath the billboard on the right was incorporated into what is now Jackson's Restaurant.  Looking NE along 21st Avenue South:

Glad these old beauties are still with us.  Both had been converted into restaurants over the years.  Currently empty but about to be repurposed yet again:  Looking NW from the other side of 21st Avenue South:

Those billboards are still there, as well as the string of buildings.  You can see the Jones Pet Shop sign that is still part of the Bongo Java Fido location there.  Looking SE along 21st Avenue South:

That "aerial" from the roof of Woolworth's reminds me of the town scene in Back to The Future. I think that diagonal "head in" parking at the curb would be extremely annoying though with the rear ends of the cars extended into the street. Interesteringly, Chattanooga converted a lot of their curbside (parallel) spots into diagonal "back in" spaces (angled backwards) along Broad a few years ago. Seems to work fine.  Always struck by the dirty appearance of the cars back then... even new ones.  People just didn't wash their cars like today.

A couple more pieces of wall art downtown.

This on the side of the Viridian Condo Tower parking garage facing the small parking lot for Downtown Presbyterian Church:

This at the south end of that little parking lot on the north iside of the garage that is on the NW corner of Commerce and 5th Avenue North.  This is the same garage that has the Johnny Cash lyrics in olde English calligraphy on its NW corner.
