Blueish diesel exhaust is evident from Louisville & Nashville (L&N) RR passenger train Nº8, the "Pan American", as it emerges from beneath the Sunday School Publishing Board (now known as "Lifeway"), on it departure from Nashville Union Station, during July 1968.  The train shown, from New Orleans, via Biloxi, Mobile, Montgomery, and Birmingham, likely has maintained its scheduled 12:50 PM departure for Bowling Green, Louisville, and Cincinnati.

Within 2 months, the east end passenger tracks would become freight only, and all then-remaining passenger trains would use two tracks on the opposite (west) side of Union Station.  This train and its southbound sister Nº9 were cancelled on on May 01, 1971, the official inception of Amtrak.

EDIT: Moderators, feel free to move this post to the Trans thread, as it may seem more appropriate.  It was placed it here (in the Project thread), only as a direct reference to the post-card Gulch theme shown above by markhollin.

^ ^ ^ Cool to think that nearly every single structure in that frame south of Shelby Street did not exist 10 years ago (or less).  That parking lot just north of Schermerhorn Symphony Hall is just crying out for a 35-45 story beauty.  Has the exact same footprint as the Pinnacle, so it is certainly has a large enough base area. It would be a nice complementary piece to the Bridgestone Tower on the other side, and the Pinnacle right behind.  Would look spectacular from Hall of Fame Park vantage point, as well as helping "fill in" the skyline from the perspective on the east side of the river.

I know we've probably discussed this before, but who owns the lot and why has it not been sold and developed?

According to Metro records, the parking "lot" is actually multiple distinct parcels owned by different parties, some of whom have owned their parcels for years (there are 5 parcels that make up the parking lots fronting 4th).  It doesn't appear that the parties are in any way connected.    The owners of two of the parcels have the same last name, but beyond that there is no way to determine from the records.   So the reason the properties have not been redeveloped is most likely that one or more of the owners are not interested in selling.

Ah! More click-bait!  So what is that red sliver-shaped object hovering above the trees in the foreground... a crane?  For the TN State Museum/Archives?

Sorry for reposting the photo, but I wanted to restore the more recent post after my question about the previous post. Like this one too.  Is that one of the houses on Broadway, near the 21st Avenue and Division junction?

That's the background, green-screen view they use on MSNBC when they interview someone from Nashville. They zoom in on Parkway Towers and the UBS Building, however. Even Joe Scarborough said, "Can't they find a better picture of Nashville to use? It's more beautiful than that."

Eh, the tree canopy, Bicentennial Park and the Capitol are not a bad backdrop. Joe Scarbrough is kind of a numb nuts anyway.,

that looks like Chuy's in the background, so i bet it is the red house at the corner of 19th and division.  near the red door and soul shine, surface lots are currently on both sides. Im actually driving over there in about an hour so I'll confirm.

apparently forgot to hit post earlier.

Isn't this the home that was recently purchased by Chicago based Big Onion Tavern group ?

Markhollin linked a story about it in the West End/Mid Town section(Pg.107).  I guess plans to use the existing building for the new Resturant/Bar changed ?
