  1. I agree completely. They're not bad places, but I don't see them as top 100. Guess it all depends on the criteria used. Although a perpetually clogged I24 is a major drawback, in my book.
  2. I also learned from my Irish co-workers that country music is HUGE in the emerald isle. I'm sure that fondness has also hopped over to the UK. For them, Nashville was a super cool destination. They all wanted to do a business trip here.
  3. First thought: Oh yay more people moving to Franklin. Second, silver lining thought: WOO hoo! House value just jumped again. Third: Smyrna? Lebanon?? really???
  4. Just a thought on why I think Atlanta has an edge over us: It's on eastern time. While it doesn't seem like a big thing, on my current contract we do a lot of work with east coast peoples, as well as European, and that hour makes a lot of difference.
  5. I have to agree with the "how do people afford to live here," cause it's nuts. I bought a home in Franklin just over 4 years ago for under 400k; I could not afford to buy anywhere in Franklin now. Flip side of it all, I work in the city and I'd love to move, but I can't afford a mortgage over 400k, so I'm stuck because I'm not going to move any further out. It's insane how much and how fast prices have gone up. My daughter and her little family live with us because rent is ridiculous.

  8. I have to agree with all of this, and the last part most of all. I no longer have a child in school, but several of the folks I work with do and that means they need to be able to leave if something comes up, not currently an option with the transit we have. As for the Bus, I rode it for over a year, everyday. It worked for me because I could have a very cut and dried work schedule, but I WAS limited in what I could do otherwise. Also, it did take much longer on average than driving myself. I now carpool to work with two others, however we all have the ability to work from home if someone needs to leave suddenly/early/etc. If transit is to work here, there will have to be trips available throughout the day; most people need far more flexibility than we currently have.
  9. Three-fer: crane up for the Dream, 505 just visible from the 2nd floor of the Stahlman (YAY), and new construction on the "Bobby" hotel. Can't wait to see the Dream go up so we can finally see what the alley side will look like.
  10. It's the Goose Creek exit off of 65, opposite side of the highway from the AgExpo center. If you haven't been that way lately, it is booming big-time. I've heard it said that it's becoming "cool springs south."
  11. I will say this about #1 on that map, even when the other lots are filled to the brim, there's usually parking to be had here, for less than other places. Mostly I believe because the entrance is fairly hidden by the Flying Saucer. Just in case anyone ever needs to know.

  14. Interesting conversation on growth in Spring Hill: a friends neighbor who was a city planner for Spring Hill just left his job and moved to another state. The reason for this was because he had had it with the city not listening to him regarding the dire need for sewer upgrades, etc. According to the friend, and this is second hand info, if ONLY the construction currently planned now is built, the city will exceed their sewer capacity in 2.5 years. However, they're not even sorta slowing down on construction projects. Makes me wonder how other municipalities are doing in relation to this. I know Williamson is making some water plant improvements, but the rest is a mystery.

  16. Oh just what we need, more cars on that NOT improved section of Columbia. Like traffic on that road isn't already a nightmare. Also, " list prices that start in the low $300,000 range, climbing as high as the mid-$400,000 range " Is not precisely AFFORDABLE.
  17. When I walked by the new garage last week, daily rate was $20 -- so more than the library. The library has gone up, but it's still the most affordable at $13 daily max. There are a couple surface lots you can get cheaper daily rates if you're in early. I can't speak much to event/evening/weekend rates, but as far as I know, the library is still best for that as well.
  18. Parking garage is open for business! Cars were going in and out when I walked by today. Prices as expected, $20 for all day.

  20. It really is. It's nearly even with the 14th floor of the Polk building now; pretty soon I'll be looking up at it, not down! Also, It's kinda awesome that it's not even halfway done yet and it's this tall. Just saying.

  22. Oh, they are. The leftmost with the white building has plans for it and the middle one First Baptist has plans for as well. Just have to give it a couple years!
  23. Thumbs up Rookzie, that sums it up nicely. I will say, sidewalks are needed, bike lanes not so much. If they move this to a 3 lane road with an even lower speed limit, it's going to get ugly. As it stands now that is one of roughly two realistic alternate routes if 65 is a mess; something that is happening more and more. To say "change hurts" is fine, there's always adjustments, but the flip side of that coin is that people will start trying to find alternate routes, and they'll start going through all those neighborhoods if 8th is backed up which will lead to a slew of new issues. This is a main street; improve it, but I can't even imagine shrinking it before there are other commuting options.

  25. Saw the mention of glass so I took a walk by at lunch. There is one small section up! Also threw in a pic of the garage, they're working hard on the lower retail section and the decorative panels are going in.
