  1. I finally did it! After spending a week in Boston and taking every mode of public transportation, literally everywhere I went (I'll post about that in the appropriate thread soon) I finally used the bus in Nashville. I was inspired by my trip, the transit plan announcement, and the fact that it was free today. I took it from my apartmentish on 8th Ave all the way downtown for a show (Lewis Black) at TPAC. It was right on time. Google maps was a great help. Just like in Boston. And I was able to enjoy a couple beers before I left home with worrying about driving. Next time I'll add about 5 minutes on the front end to make sure I get to the stop in time. Inbound, the closest stop is actually .5 miles from my apartment. Going home its directly in front. For safety reasons. Also, no sidewalk under 44o for that walk. On previous attempts to take the bus, this was 5ish years ago, I couldndt figure out the sched5. And at that time I think Google maps only knew when a bus left each end of the route. Now it tracked live. So I gave up. Now. On the way home it seems they will be 1 hour apart so that might be a issue. All this to say. I'll do it again. Our fare system is very fair even when it's not free. And the improvements under the referendum look very promising. Increased frequency means not having to worry about looking at the schedule or Google maps. You just know. I will say the current website for the referendum SUCKS. The one in 2018 was great. We need that again.
  2. When I was little my family would comw from west TN to visit my grandparents in Brentwood. These bright yellow bridges were my sign that we were almost there. Also that I could pee soon, because my dad would refuse to stop the entire 3 hour drive.
  3. I also recently traveled to NYC, the first week of December. My trip was also to see The Phantom of the Opera. But instead of more shows, we went to see the Preds play the Islanders at their new home. We took the Long Island Railroad from Penn Station but had time to see the new Moynihan Train Hall. I mostly go to museums when traveling so this trip we hit up the Morgan Library and the Met. also the Museum of Sex (not pictured). But the highlight of the trip for me personally was finally visiting the former TWA Terminal at JFK. its now a hotel. it is connected to the current Jetblue terminal via the original bridges. Since donNdonelson2 covered a lot of the city, I'll limit my pictures to other items. I also agree that prices in the city have increased since my last visit 4 years ago. I first noticed that my Uber from Laguardia into the city was about $20 more than the last time. So I learned to take the LIRR to JFK. the 99 cent pizza was surprisingly good!
  4. This post on Twitter is causing confusion. they say that over sized bags will have to be checked. so naturally all of the replies are asking if they are going to force guitars to be checked. also, their dimensions are smaller than what some carriers, (including southwest, our largest carrier) allow. The TSA responded to someone's question and directly contradicted what BNA said. I predict some yelling tomorrow. possible some viral videos of people yelling at nashville TSA about their guitars.
  5. in the 90s the Saturn factory in Spring Hill had an entire building dedicated to plastics. Remember the original Saturn models had Plastic body panels. Now they are building a factory for batteries for electric cars. talk about a 180.
  6. there is a line from Hamilton "But they don't have a plan, they just hate mine" I thought about it constantly during the transit debate. it also reminds me of other high ranking individuals that said older deals and plans were terrible and their own was better. but then failed to ever even propose their own. adding. during the debate 3 years ago, i always tried to let people tell me their "better" plans. then i would break down why theirs would not work. point by point. but I always did it nicely
  7. two weeks ago I was walking up Demonbreun after a concert at Bridgestone. there was one of the party vehicles creeping down the street at idle speed, blasting music so loud I started to move the other direction. then I realized it was EMPTY except for the driver. So I pulled out my phone and shot a video with the intention to send it to the city council. but I totally forgot until just now.
  8. that Screams 1999. OH btw. Im back. havent checked the board since early May of last year. I just spent the last 3 weeks catching back up. there was A LOT to read!
  9. yes. its way back in this thread and i couldnt find it. but its a new strip of stores. much closer to the street with parking in the rear instead of in front if i remember correctly.
  10. I wasnt able to get a picture because I was driving. but the 3 buildings at the corner of 8th and Hillview Heights have been leveled. the captain Ds, Little Caesars and small strip that included a discount cigarette store and Boltons hot chicken and fish.
  11. it was at the previous tenant of that location from what I uderstand.
  12. i also have heard this. and the room with the view facing downtown ie the best view, doesnt even have a price, it just goes to the highest bidder.
  13. my company is going remote on monday, with the exceptions of accounting and customer service, which both have to report on monday to work out a schedule. we will be working from home but alternating days in the office since we have some duties that cant be performed outside. well thats what they say. I personally could get by with about 4 hours per week in the office.
  14. I have tickets to a play in NYC on the 28th. I plan on flying up there to attend. at this point I am looking forward to being in a (relatively) empty new york. However, i have already told my grand parents that i will not be visiting them for several weeks after i get back. because even though i could get a mild case, I do not want to pass it to them.
  15. I didn't even see a branch down in Melrose all the way down to Brentwood. We slept through the whole thing. When I woke up I had no idea why I had so many messages from friends asking if I was OK. And since I didn't have my CO tacts in, I got UK to fix my TV sound and read in the screen "100s evacuated in Nashville. And they were showing the auto parts store in Germantown. Since I had no context yet. I thought it might be a gas explosion. It took me several minutes to figure out what was going on. Im very glad everyone on here seems to be OK.
  16. The next home game is the 21st at 1. There is a preds home game at 7. I bet a lot of preds fans that went to the soccer game on Saturday will be at both on the 21st! I saw preds gear everywhere. We plan to be. I still have a lot of questions about how the game is played but we had a great time on Saturday. The wife asked about season tickets 10 minutes into the game. We will definitely be back to several this year. Starting with the 21st!
  17. they have now opened up the first 3 rows in the remaining sections. it looks like several hundred have sold from the picture i posted earlier.
  18. I can only say of one cancellation i have direct knowledge. My parents were supposed to fly from here next tuesday. they were going to a convention in Nuremburg, via the BA flight to London. the convention has been canceled. so. on a local level. he has canceled his flight. and 2 hotel nights, one monday and one for his return in 2 weeks. he would have spent money on broadway for diner and drinks on monday night and even some on tuesday before his flight. obviously, this is just 2 people. but amplify it by thousands. and that is just people traveling through here to get to another destination.
  19. this is what they did with the opposite upper level. they first sold the rows closest to the field in the middle, kind of in a triangle, (yellow) with more rows available towards the center. then opened up the rows behind that (blue) , leaving the seats further from center field not even for sale, (red) as they continue to sell they open more up. i watched all last week as the opposite side kept creeping towards the top. now this side is doing it. as for myself. i have never been to a soccer game in my life. not even a kids game. but i will be there tomorrow! i bought club level (in case of bad weather) a few weeks ago. sold my preds tickets for the night. I'm really looking forward to it. I just hope whomever is sitting next to me doesnt mind answering a bunch of stupid questions from both myself and my wife.
  20. Funny. I literally replied to her tweet of this story with a gif of a woman stirring a pot.
  21. In Williamson, Centennial was the first new high school since Brentwood opened in the early 80s. Centennial opened my freshman year in 1996, I was in the first class to attend 4 years. both Ravenwood and Independence opened while I was in college. I moved here in 92. and attended the new trinity Elementary, which was only 1 year old at the time. i dont know how many, but they built quite a few identical elementary schools in the early 90s. many more since. I went to Page Middle, and while there, several new middle schools opened.
