Thanks for saying this.  Availability of materials and massive price fluctuations mean that whatever they show now is likely to change regardless.  Hastings traditionally delivers a good product so let's wait this one out.

David Bailey of Hastings gave a presentation in my class at UTK a week or two ago and mentioned that they were planning a redesign for what this site was to hold. Now we know. Hopefully they deliver something nice. The one thing I am excited to see is that it's a brand new brand. It's neat that we are one of the first to get it.

Updated images and diagrams have been released for the 12 story Hyatt Caption Hotel. Hastings Architecture and the rest of the team will seek approval for the plan at the Feb. 1 MDHA Design Review Committee meeting.

Michael Hayes of developer C.B. Ragland says "Our design team did a good job incorporating their comments from our last review. We are continuing to finalize the color palette, glazing and brick patterning across the façade around the building. There will be more to come here in the months ahead."  He also said that the structure will feature a signature restaurant space as the corner of 12th Ave. South and McGavock St.

No timeline has been announced yet.  Whiskey Kitchen will remain in operation o the site until construction begins.

Looks like the Lexington, KY Hilton.   This is not a complement.  Maybe make the exterior a dark charcoal like the Virgin?

Yeah I'm not crazy about the Memphis design. Construction is fairly far along — from a distance, it just looks like a black box, almost like it's unfinished. Maybe this one will look better.

I really think it is a branding thing. Looks like they have to go by certain design guidelines. At least they don’t have to have an orange roof like the old Howard Johnsons or were those blue. Been a long time ago and I have forgotten.

Nothing spectacular design wise, but it's just a twelve story chain hotel.  Not everything has to be the Taj Mahal.  As long as it doesn't commit any egregious design faux pas, I'm cool with it.

It’s also interesting to think about with Endeavors Residential towers, the possible two tower project on 11th (across from Raymond James), ONE22ONE, and the possible two tower Tennessean site (plus others) and i feel it will kinda disappear in the middle under them all. No problem being simple and plain when the striking views are bigger and surrounding. Just adds more density which i know many of us are for!

I agree but I do like the window designs.

MDHA Design Review Committee did not vote on the concept plan for the Hyatt Caption Hotel on Tuesday, even though they were generally in favor of it. 

According to a source, the committee responded favorably to the overall height and planned stepbacks along McGavock Street, but asked the developer's design team to revisit the building massing along 12th Avenue and to consider additional program and height at the street edge along 12th Avenue.

I honestly don't mind the building's height, given the height of Mill Creek's 1212 McGavock and Endeavor's projects... but I do wish the facade was black (Memphis) versus brown.

A stormwater grading permit has been sought and a 4th quarter groundbreaking is planned for Hyatt Caption.  The Whiskey Kitchen structure will be razed in mid-November. Civil Site Design is now listed as an engineer.

The hotel will feature a restaurant space at the corner of McGavock and 12th Ave. South.  Still no word on how many rooms.

New renderings also released showing a lighter color brick finish on the pedestal and light beige cladding with large blue glass windows on upper floors.

ho hum....  looks like a hotel for the Airport/Donelson area.

It would be a great addition to the Murfreesboro skyline.

It's all about the Pentium. Sorry, the infill. Got Weird Al mixed up there. I don't think the height has anything to do with it as much as what is there now. The lot is under utilized.

Wish we could magically switch the design with that stalled Humanitarian one.  

Glad the developer of the W didn't feel that same say about not caring about the design even if the angles will be blacked.  What a beauty!
