Yeah, sorry. Last time I was in new York the wife and I were eating at an Italian place on the upper west side on the patio and the view down this street reminded me of the view I had that day. The picture didn't really capture it

From today's Nashville Post:

The Nashville-area business partners developing a self-storage building in Germantown have landed a major permit related to the project.

The permit is valued at about $8.35 million, with locally based The Conseco Group handling the work.

Mark Tarver, president of Tarver Properties, is teaming with Jewell Hale and Bobby Kirby on the $10 million project. The six-story mixed-use building will offer 90,000 square feet of self-storage and 6,500 square feet of retail and have an address of 1232 Third Ave. N.  To be located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Third and Monroe Street, the building will front Third.

The team created GTown Storage LLC for the effort, having acquired the 0.69-acre property last October for $2 million.

If operational today, the facility would be the only of its type in the fast-changing North Nashville district.

Very frustrated that the 8' tall safety wall polka dot screening continues to be installed along both sides of the Division Street Connector, thus obscuring any views of the skyline.  Even looking through the individual holes, which are about 2.5" in diameter, is problematic because of the screen mesh in front has openings of only about 1/2".

It's a symptom...of bureaucracy, of isolated silos and poor oversight with minimal accountability.  Here's what happened: the mesh and fabricated panels appear to be stainless steel. Incredibly expensive material and expensive to fabricate. The panels were purchased, designed and (mostly) fabricated well before your contact with the city. Far too late to cancel orders with the vendor or to scrap. Far too late for person(s) and a department to accept responsibility for terrible ideas and ridiculous decisions. No one willing to fall on their sword. A good old fashioned boondoggle. It's antithetical to pedestrians and car passengers alike. It's stupid - and a waste of taxpayer dollars.

Which is probably at least one of the factors in the final design.

Right on.  Unfortunately, I believe that unless the final design includes issuing a pogo stick to every pedestrian, it's not gonna work...

No one will be standing on the bridge to watch fireworks from a distance that's for sure.  Looks like the only purpose will be to watch traffic go by....  That's extremely disappointing to see.  I understand the need for safety but this is overkill.  Imagine the KVB and Shelby bridges having such features.....  Lets all pray that the pedestrian bridge will not include such obstructions to view the city.

Right. Keep in mind that this bridge is primarily for vehicular traffic, and is located on both a horizontal and vertical curve. It wouldn't take much more than a glance at the view for a driver to end up wrapped around one of those bollards.

Is it legal to bring a small ladder to put on the sidewalk to take pictures? I took some there before they put these up and it is a great view. It'll be even better in the future.I guess I could fake a breakdown in my truck and stand in the back of it for a minute and snap a few.

Except that it incorporates the "complete street" design, with separate designated pedestrian and bicycle lanes, benches and landscaping.     It was intentionally designed for multimodal use, so to then obstruct the views from the bridge seems like a major design screw up.

I do not know.  I do know that The Listening Room has already planned on moving and that I heard from a SoBro worker that the lot was sold or "to be" sold.  Maybe someone on the board can give insight.

I think they have already opened. I saw a bunch of people standing in line to get in the other night IH building.
