Citigroup has been criticized over the past year or so for underperforming relative to its peers. I see this move as a way to streamline their processes and lower their costs, which if done correctly, should address some of those concerns.

More like since 2003, its CEO has also been criticized for its poor stock performance. It's going to be a matter of time before BofA takes over Citigroup's position as America's number one bank. Citigroup has always differ than the other large banks, it's not just a general consumer bank, it acts as a financial company with diverse products.

Now that Charlotte is seen on the international stage as a place with lots of human capital (in terms of financial services), it now is becoming a place that other financial institutions could set up shop (notice I did not say "headquarters"). There is less concern that companies in banking/finance will be able to find local employees with specialized skills. I think we could see some great stuff happen here in town. Seeing Charlotte go from a "banking" to a "finance" town would do great things in diversifying our economy. It would be awesome to see a large trans-national set up offices in the new Trump complex.

So...basically Deutsche Bank is setting up a large field office in Charlotte, in the future Trump tower, which will help make Charlotte's economy more diverse.

Citibank is also a large trans-national. But yes, bringing financial services to Charlotte would help it become more than just a "bank town". Edited by Miesian Corners

Wachovia is trying to do this with the new Wachovia Securities setting up shop in the base of One Wach.

So does that mean they are moving that operation from Richmond? I remember several years ago when Wachovia bought out Prudential Securities, a lot of people had to relocate from North Jersey to Richmond.

Alright Miesian Corners, if Deutsche Bank does increase there presence in Charlotte would it do some consolidation in this region and pull from Atlanta, Winston-Salem, Nashville, etc. or would DB bring in new employees from outside? I will admit I didn't know they had offices spread across the Southeast like they do...

And I am going to assume that your avatar was no coincidence either ^_^

I've heard the DB rumor from a completely different, but reliable, source. The one thing they could not tell me was timing...

I know nothing concrete about anything or any one company. I have heard from reliable sources that there are three large global financial services companies looking at Charlotte. One in particular is looking at office space uptown.

As far as my avatar is concerned, I don't know what what you're talking about... :whistling:

It would be fantastic if we could get 1 or 2 international banks to set up in Charlotte with a large presence. Again, the human infrastructure to serve them could be leveraged to attract a host international finance companies to Charlotte. I honestly think it would elevate Charlotte to a whole new league of cities within 10 years.

Academics keep wanting Charlotte to diversify, but I say, know your strengths and leverage it into becoming the dominant center of that industry.

How cool would it be to have retail bank branches with the exchange rate signs downtown. Never know when you might some Yen :)

MC...I see you are now a Commerzbank man now ;) Also, what about Abn Amro? I do think that there is a large multi-national bank deal in the works, because its the only thing that makes sense with the product being built. If it was Citigroup, slap a Sheraton there, and call it a day.

So, DB, Commerzbank and Goldman Sachs are all locating in the Trump project, and it's going to be 130 stories tall at this point ?

I don't think they are all looking at locating in one building or necessarily in this one :whistling:

If a goldman sachs comes to uptown in the next few years, i will be astonished.

Be astonished!

If people in the "know" are reading this thread, they're probably having a good time watch us speculate.

You'd be surprised who does, and who doesn't, read this site. I was at the Historic Commission meeting last night, and as they were setting up the power-point presentation the main guys with Planning / Historic's "desktop" was on the screen for a few minutes. Direct link to Urban Planet!!
