Metro charges the companies, but the companies (at least those I'm aware of) provide the parking free to employees - at the distant lots. If you want respect for your views, try giving some back.

My understanding is that the city helps provide parking for many downtown companies on metro land. (like around Nissan stadium) The companies do provide parking to their employees with metro helping. I may be misstating the relationship but that is what I have heard.

As long as we want folks to work and come come downtown - we need cheap parking. If you took away the subsidized/free parking options (downtown) companies couldn't hire workers and would relocate to free parking suburbs (Brentwood/Cool Springs). As others have said - once this fantastic transportation system is designed, approved and being built discussions can begin on ways to "encourage" people to use it.

I'm for mass transit, and mass transit options, but education of folks is the key. What does Nashville mass transit look like now? Buses slowly moving down roads making stops every 100 yards. Why would average folks, of any age, opt for that over their own car? Most folks have no frame of reference for speedy bus lanes or light rail. When doing anything toward mass transit is presented as taking away something (traffic lanes) they use now, I think winning them over is hard.

From what I've heard - Nissan (and the other foreign car makers) will very likely have to match the union pay with the same results. I agree that Nissan is better.

Anecdotally I'm hearing that to offset auto worker raises, white collar jobs are being slashed and automation will increase (needing fewer workers). There is only so much of the increased worker salaries that can be passed on to car buyers and there is little fat to cut in production.

The best rendering I've seen of the new wine bar Postino coming to the old Taqueria del Sol location in 12South. $3.3 million reno budget so it should be nice. The old outside area (several steps higher) will be lowered to match the interior floor level of the restaurant.

Little to no work has occurred here for several weeks, by my estimate. You may see a couple of workers roaming the site on days that I go by. No idea why.

The historic commission may have dictated that the rebuilt side of the building had to look different from the historic sides. I’ve encountered this on past projects. I think they will find someone, maybe an artist to get the front bricks to match. I doubt they could get historic to agree to painting the front of the building.

I don't think anyone posting here is anti bike lanes or doesn't see the wisdom of adding, where possible/practical bike lanes. Some are simply wanting to see evidence that Nashvillians are using the ones we have (limited as they are) as we spend money on more. I was under the impression that adding bike lanes was more to replace cars than for recreation. Just me - I'd rather see money for sidewalks first. There are 8000 +/- students attending Belmont and I see few riding bikes. Lots walking, lots driving but you'd think they are the demographic (along with Lipscomb and Vandy students and workers) that would be filling our streets with bikes.

I've lived in 12South/Belmont for nearly 12 years and walk it every nice afternoon, usually at rush hour. I see maybe 1-2 commuters on bikes a day. Recreational biker riders, yes, but not even a lot of those. Many of the side streets are too narrow and our sidewalks to crappy in many areas for safe bike riding. I see lots of walkers, even a few with groceries. I don't see many riders on my drives into (or back from) downtown along 12th and never have. No bias involved, just I don't see them and I'm certainly looking for them. Belmont and 10th have somewhat protected designated bike lanes, rarely used beyond recreational users. No bias, just stating what I see.

For what it's worth - I flew out last Tuesday morning, getting to the airport at 5am and had no issues. My Uber driver said he sees most issues on Sundays/Mondays. A coworker flew out last Thursday morning with no issues as well.

If they just built bicycle lanes to the airport that would solve the problems.

Purely a guess, but it could be for the electrical transformer. They can get big and often are buried under the sidewalks in front of buildings with access from the building (basement) or sidewalk.
