You are comparing a city that has a metro population that is more than the state of South Carolina's total population to Greenville. How does this make any sense?

Money is money. Size doesn’t matter in this case. Developers in Atlanta have resources or whatever you want to call it to get things done. Developers in Greenville have to wait for a certain interest rate, or whatever to get started. Excuse after excuse. If the developers don’t have the means to get going why not wait until they have the resources to get going instead of announcing and then putting a project on hold forever hoping for the right conditions which may never come.

Stop it with the drama and negativity. Have you even bothered to see what developers have accomplished in the last 5 years in Greenville? We are booming with developments. Wow don't give a hoot about Atlanta, Charlotte and any other city. Those of us that love this area are thrilled with what our city leaders and developers have done to make us the envy of the nation. My goodness, why do you think so many folks are moving here? It is certainly not because nothing is getting done.

Yeah. Booming with stalled developments with chain link fences up everywhere unless you count the new sprawling subdivisions that hurt quality of life. LOL. The gateway site has only been empty for 25 years. What’s another 25 anyways? Who’s even counting anymore right? Great first impression for the visitors.

It's a shame if someone actually comes on this forum and reads it looking for actual information about Greenville. They're going to be hit in the face with delusion and false information about a regressing city. Hopefully they're intelligent enough to look elsewhere for legitimate facts.

I had to get my negative Nancy in at least once today. I can’t let @apaladin have all of the fun.

Even with that, I am still not happy the city doesn’t do more to clean up some of these sites until they get built on.

Size and population definitely does matter, economics 101. There is a reason we don't have stuff that Atlanta has. It's much bigger! More people equals more money, and more developers with developments. It absolutely does. And they have to be able to sell or fill whatever they're building. You must be kidding.

Yesterday we learned the economy is growing faster than expected and today we learned that inflation is slowing quicker than expected. It's a disaster out there! Thanks Joe!

And yet we have stalled projects all over the place. Makes no sense:

Google "stalled projects" in Charlotte, Atlanta, Raleigh and any other city that you want to compare Greenville to. It is happening in every growing city in the country. Just one of many examples. https://www.axios.com/local/raleigh/2024/01/05/delayed-real-estate-projects-raleigh-durham

In Charleston maybe but not Greenville, promises, promises. delays, delays, like I said when they put up the chainlink fence. It will be rusty before anything happens.

The existing Canvas building looks SOOO out of place connected to that nice big new tower.

The Canvas Tower will hardly even be noticeable unless you are coming in on 183. I wonder how it would look if the new building were rotated 180 degrees with the multilayer side facing Academy... that might be a better way to orient this building.

You're not the only poster to have said this, but I don't understand the idea at all. "Out of place" meaning what exactly? Both buildings will add to the fabric of our urban core. I don't want every single building to look the same. Maybe I'm in the minority.

I agree with that broadly and I certainly don't want the charming older buildings downtown razed for all modern structures. However, this building is not charming (aka hideous architecture)  it is simply older. And juxtposed by connection with nicer architecture makes that even more stark. Look I get it, it is not my money and they are trying to repurpose that Canvas tower for obvious reasons. But that does not change the lipstick on the pig.
