This shot had me reflecting roughly on when I joined the UP community.   I drove to Nashville soon after to see all the excitement for myself in October 2020 and stayed at the Grand Hyatt during it's opening weekend.  I remember how excited I was to see with my own eyes the things you all would post about.  I posted photos from that visit.  Gibson, A2, Alcove, Prime, and Tempo  were nowhere to be found, Asurion was underway, and 10th/upper 10th was surrounded by a makeshift parking lot to the west and a pristine  hole to the east.  How things do change...with time.

That's what I think it is. Only for the specific Amazon 3 tower tabling of that construction.

You mean the entire construction at Nashville Yards? No, I doubt that.

The issue with the Silicon Valley Bank seemed to be focused only on that bank's somewhat risky behavior. It could have a bit of a ripple effect on a few other small banks, possibly. But I'd think on the whole, unless construction loan financing is going through that bank or a small regional one, I would be very surprised to think there's anything to worry about with the NY project.

Meanwhile, construction projects in Bellevue, Washington, near Seattle, and in Nashville, Tennessee, were paused while Amazon teams redesigned buildings. Last month, Amazon Chief Executive Officer Andy Jassy said the company would require most employees to begin spending a minimum of three days a week in the office. That policy that takes effect in May

 

Amazon grew rapidly during the pandemic, but has started to reassess real estate projects to account for the likelihood that some office roles will be performed remotely — at least part-time — for many years. The company last year froze most corporate hiring and began a round of layoffs that will ultimately total about 18,000 workers.

I just drove by there and there was a big line of trucks dropping off material and blocking the right lane and workers everywhere.  Nothing is slowing down at this work site as far as the buildings that are currently under construction are concerned and I sat through at least a dozen changes of the traffic light while waiting for the traffic to clear.

This article seems to reinforce what we already sort of knew--that Amazon was pausing construction and redesigning their newer corporate offices to meet the hybrid/remote demand, as well as some re-evaluation of current economic and market conditions.

I do have to say, that I am glad that 2 office towers were able to be built, before any of this construction pause and slowdown came into effect. Part of me though, wishes they had built the 600 foot tower first, and then I'd be ok with the smaller one or two being tabled.

Still puzzles me, they say that 1001 Church wasn’t a Amazon tower. But they decided not to build it now because of Amazon redefining their space. If they weren’t building just for Amazon, why not continue on with the project as planned.

It's been the case that lots of office buildings get greenlighted when there's a substantial anchor lease. Looks like AMZN has tabled that for now. Hopefully not forever, but it's a plum site that will get something big someday.
