Nashville Bits and Pieces

A new Fortune 500 company has been formed by the merger of AmSurg and Envision with $8.5 billion in revenues that will be co-headquartered in Nashville (but the CEO of Amsurg will be the CEO of the new company).  Of course, it will be at least a year before Fortune recognizes the new company, Envision Healthcare Holding as such.

So what kind of advantages does the Envision part of this merger (Colorado) have since they'll own 53% of the company?  Is there a chance they could one day decide they want to move the entire company to Colorado since they own 53%?  Or...does the 7/7 board keep that from happening?

There is a chance.  Usually the HQ is understood to be where the CEO resides and calls his home office. Dual HQs rarely work as intended and usually at some point result in a consolidation into one HQ.  Nashville may lose in the end. But at least for now, the CEO calls Nashville home.

Yes, he was here a few months ago filming.    I think the episode will involve a fair amount of Sean Brock, Tandy Wilson, etc, and, of course, hot chicken joints like Prince's.    Also an AB fan and can't wait!

Funny, I never thought of him as AB,  among my friends, AB is Alton Brown,   and we just refer to Anthony as simply Bourdain.

A little more on the Amsurg-Envision merger.  From NBJ:  http://www.bizjournals.com/nashville/news/2016/06/16/three-things-to-know-about-amsurgs-big-deal.html

I just checked the F500 companies on the 2016 list. Currently there are 6 based in the Nashville MSA.  Of course, Bridgestone and Nissan American HQs would qualify in their own right if they were American based public companies.  And there are at least two private companies (Ingram and Asurion, I think) that have F500 size revenues.

Anyway, I cut/pasted below (Included Brookdale because it's on the threshold).  Sorry for the crummy job but it is far more readable than it was when I first posted it.

If I am not mistaking. Music City Indoor Karts has a warehouse somewhere along the location of the scrap metal yard by Nissan Stadium. I could be wrong but when I was in town. I believe Delanie Walker for the Titans hosted a celebrity function there recently. So Andretti Karts would make two for the area if they decided to build on the east bank.

According to parkworld-online as of 12-18-2015. Six Territories have been already licensed for the Polercoaster and the five cities considered are Atlanta, Nashville, Myrtle Beach, New York, and Atlantic City. The Orlando Polercoaster will stand at 501ft. The LA Polercoaster can't exceed 600ft due to traffic concerns and the height of the tower. I guess we all will here of something in the near future on this.

Well...this probably means ours won't be over 30 feet tall. :P

I thought there was a thread for Nashville Food and Drink. Anyway... here's recognition of two city restaurants by Wine Enthusiast magazine among their 100 Best Wine Restaurants list.  http://www.winemag.com/restaurant/prima/

Turner Construction's Nashville branch now offers virtual reality ability to tour building plans.  This from today's Nashville Post:

The Nashville office of Turner Construction is now offering its clients a virtual reality service to allow them to “virtually enter a room or building.” The experience is meant to elevate the experiences that result when clients review blueprints or watch 3D videos, according to information Turner sent the Post.

With the virtual reality lab, clients can “virtually enter” a room or building, walk around, and pick things up and move them around. Turner Construction is billing itself as the first and only company in Nashville to offer a virtual service of this type.

Here is a link to a demonstration:

Nashville has again been listed as a possible location for a Polercoaster or SkySpire attraction: http://www.coaster101.com/2016/06/29/polercoaster-developers-go-public-seek-investors/

The company behind the attractions went public today and are seeking investors. Nashville and Myrtle beach are the initial targeted markets, according to offering circular: "The company’s initially targeted markets are Myrtle Beach, Nashville and a third to be determined location, but the order and list of markets to develop may be subject to change based upon timing of approvals, financing and relative attractiveness of other sites."

It would be developed after the Myrtle Beach project: "Initially, the company will develop and operate a Polercoaster in Myrtle Beach or other site to be determined. If the company raises enough for a second project, it will develop and operate a Polercoaster in Nashville or other site to be determined."
