In most historically English-speaking regions with a large mining industry you'll often find traces of Cornish immigration and influence. Cornwall mined tin for over 4000 years and locals developed quite the reputation for their expertise of extracting tin, copper, and other semi-precious metals out of the ground. The closest place that has (good) fresh pasties in the US is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. A large Cornish community moved to the UP (Michigan's UP, not this website) for the Iron/Copper mining up that way in the late 1800's / early 1900's. The Finns who also immigrated to the region adopted pasties into their cuisine as well. As a half-Finn / half-Cornishman myself, the cultural fusion is fascinating. Just make sure to ask for "Swede" instead of "Rutabaga" if ordering one in Cornwall.

I think this really highlights that there is definitely still a space for "premium" malls with high-end stores and top amenities. I frequently hear from folks that they are "going to South Park today" and will window-shop or buy a luxury item. On the other hand they'll just order online or go to the Outlet mall if shopping for lower-end/every-day clothing.

Non-bank financial services here. Two days per week in-office is our new requirement. In reality uptake has been....low, but sounds like management will start turning the screws over the next month or two. I'm personally fine with hybrid and do feel a positive impact from being co-located with people I am working with. However, my NY/NJ colleagues are irate. There will be a lot of pressure on our company as folks leave for remote opportunities and we remain painfully understaffed in key areas.

Greensboro is tucked in closer to the Appalachians. A lot of our weather in the Piedmont of NC is driven by Cold Air Damming (CAD) creating a "wedge" of cold air. Essentially, relatively shallow cold air is pushed out of the NE against the eastern side of the Appalachians. Since Greensboro is closer to the mountains that are funneling cold air down out of the NE, it takes longer for this effect to break down than in Raleigh or Charlotte. This type of weather is also associated with damp, wet weather during the fall, winter, and spring, causing more average rainfall as well.

Today I got in what will likely be my last trip to the Midnight Diner in its current location. Not sure I'll make it to Uptown Cab on the other hand, or at least I won't say so on a semi-public forum.....

Saw the fanfest Uptown tonight and it was a little...sparse.

Depends on how optimistic you are, but it's potentially true. We did slow down our rate of growth in the past census, but given COVID issues it's a bit of a ???? until 2030. If I had to pick one year only I'd say 2027, but we'll never 100% *truly* know the exact year.

I've always had better luck with Bojangle's out in the countryside.

As a former Michigander, I'm mostly just upset that Wisconsin annexed the UP!

Just this past weekend I ran 5K on the American Tobacco Trail while visiting friends in Durham. Hope the XCLT trail can be just as impactful when it is completed.
