Charlotte Knights AAA Ballpark in Third Ward

^And if it's just a hotel, you only need about 60' of width for the building itself. In the not so distant future (not necessarily this project), I can see hotel or office developments start to really minimize the self contained parking.

  • 4 weeks later...

A good sign: Erik Spanberg tweets that Fuzzy Peach (a yogurt shop) will open in the Ballpark and be open 'year round.'

In a perfect world one of our local brewers would open up a brewpub outpost in the ballpark...

EDIT: scooped by RVA. Interesting that we had different interpretations (but I will admit that I don't know what other options exist for retail space in the ballpark. I am still holding out hope for interesting stuff in the hotel / office buildings we are still waiting on....)

I was looking at the Mint-fronting building when I was over there last, and it would be a bit small for a restaurant or bar. I'm assuming this is the froyo space now. I'm sure it'll be a huge hit, but yeah I'm still holding out hope for something a little more interesting getting squeezed in eventually.

I could see myself getting froyo for desert at a ball game... So I guess I'm... okay... with...it?

Honestly, as cool as a restaurant or bar would be there, a frozen yogurt/ice cream place is kind of the perfect thing for that location. Once it turns warm and the park is blooming and baseball starts up, people will be buying frozen yogurt like crazy to eat while walking around. They're gonna sell frozen yogurt like hotcakes!

I've been thinking/saying this for at least two years... a sports bar in the retail spot for the Catalyst/Ally Parking deck would kill there -- new Picasso's location perhaps? Once the Childress-Klein tower is done, that place will fill up. Plenty of residents between that and Catalyst to justify it IMO. Throw in BB&T Ballpark for good measure.

^ I'm thinking the same thing.  Especially as those surface lots on Graham are developed...there's going to be a pretty large number of residents in that little area between Tryon & Gateway that will be dying for more places to eat.

I just think of the atmosphere in Durham at the American Tobacco campus and hope something like that develops around BB&T.

The CBJ posted some more elaborate pictures of the stadium: http://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/slideshow/2014/01/15/latest-progress-on-charlotte-knights-bb-t-ballpark.html

You'll see some more inside the stadium pics that we haven't been seen before. Less than 3 months to go before this bad boy is open. Can't wait!
