  1. the only thing I've had to contribute to UP in a while... a rarely seen angle of Uptown
  2. I didn't see it mentioned (my eyes might be getting worse though), but does anyone know if the adjacent buildings/land on Camden (Charlotte Post & Phat Burrito) are in play as well?
  3. I feel like like I had a hand in all this.. I know I didn't of course... but extremely similar approach from my post in December 2013 regarding what Norfolk VA did w/ $3M in a year on their 'AM-Shack'. If it wasn't for all the track work our shack could be done by the end of 2016.
  4. From what I've gathered during various neighborhood conversations, it was inevitable. Supposedly Gains Brown has no choice but to either sell, or get pushed-out without much, if any, compensation. I can't confirm but, I heard that's what happened with the Trolly Museum; I was told he once owned that building as well but, he got pushed out by whatever 'immanent domain' laws/policies/regs exercised to do so. Regardless, $$$/Development has a louder voice than the current 'renters' who make up the majority of the residents in the South End special tax zone. It's not like Dilworth, or even Wilmore, where single-family property owners make up the consensus whose property tax dollars give them influence/voice towards guiding development in their neighborhoods. Like it or not, Southend is steadily becoming more of an extension/assimilation of uptown vs. an independent, community-guided, neighborhood. Just the change I've seen living here for the past 5 years is incredible, completely different feel/vibe than when I first moved to SE.
  5. Not sure if this has been shared, but this is the best rendering I've come across so far of both Crescent projects' impact on the city scape. wow.... just wow
  6. I saw that Blue Line Capacity Extension construction is underway at 485 Station today. It appears they are extending platform to the north on southbound track and extending platform to the south on the northbound track.
  7. It's a shame that re-storing, retro-fitting and expanding on the old Seaboard Air Line Railroad Passenger Station is not currently a viable alternative. The Blue Line extension passes so close that you could create a station/platform right at Alpha Mill with and extended pedestrian walkway to N College to allow easy transfer between Amtrak and LRT line. I supposed it could be feasible to build something with promise and even act as an anchor catalyst to the N-Tryon if it were possible to purchased all the land surrounding the existing station north of 12th St to the existing ROW, and west from the Blue Line Extension to Graham St.
  8. I swear when I was riding the train this morning I saw 2 newly built Elevator shafts on the west side of Fountains @ Southend. They appeared to be constructed between Foster Ave and the CATS facility. Did I miss an announcement of a new midlevel apt or Office project back in that area? Does anyone have any info or a link? I'll Bcycle down there this weekend to take a look and some pics if it actually 'is' anything..
  9. I saw a Siemens commercial on CNBC yesterday featuring Light Rail Vehicle Manufacturing in USA and has quite a few shots of our beloved S70s in Uptown. Check it out HERE
  10. $200k towards Gateway... That will get 1/2 a report written by an outside consulting firm with redundant/repetitive information that we've all read and gone over for the past 3 years. IMO, it would be better utilized by re-allocating it to the Cedar yard streetcar project. (Of course that can't and won't happen)
  11. Quick observation while on LRT, an excavator has been working on site for the past 2 weeks in the northwest corner along Dewitt Lane.
  12. Not a mid rise project buuuuuut.... Tryon has the painted dotted outlines for the new on-street 'Twilight Parking' spaces that will soon be a reality for South End nightly visitors, 6pm-7am I believe. Also, Slate Billiards is opening up next to Oak room thus completing occupancy in that building.
  13. Hey that's me on the inside bar video far left in frame, the end of the bar starting the I Believe chant at 1:49 ! hahaha awesome Can't wait for Sunday!! See you lads up there, even if I don't really see you..
  14. How about building a Top Golf on some of that plentiful open land. It's really a lot of fun, used to go to the one in Dallas a lot. The closest one is up in NoVA. It would create another unique-activity attraction in uptown for all ages and incorporates one of Crown-town's favorite past times... drinking.... I mean golf.
  15. pretty sure the house has to actually sell, near asking price, to be considered 'progress'. Otherwise, it's just a speculative real estate investment for whoever currently holding the note. Any potential buyers here? You can't flip it, you must live there..
  16. Great news this has traction again. I think it is now perceived as a real and immediate need with the NS Intermodal yard fully operational. Perhaps NS had some closed door talks with Raleigh to makes sure this happens. "We'd like to offer more capacity/frequencies, but that darn CSX crossing.." wink wink nudge nudge
  17. very good sir... think you may have nailed it.
  18. The reason I went with 1762 is that is the year when Mecklenburg County was formed (as it was the western part of Anson County). Charlotte town was then incorporated in 1768.
  19. The Railhawks are the Carolina NASL team, which does a good draw fior the Cary/Raleigh area. I don't think there is enough room for another NASL team so close in NC. USLPRO is great though, I mean the Kickers program back home has built a great following strong MLS relationship with DC United and are even playing a home friendly against FC Crystal Palace (EPL) next month. All that from a mid-size city USLPRO team. With BOFA Stadium upgrades we can be sure to land more exhibition matches in the coming seasons as well as land a few matches for the 2016 Copa America Cup. With those type of events coming to town, USLPRO will do just fine to keep and build the base until we land the MLS franschise in 2017.
  20. maybe: FC Charlotte-Mecklenburg 1762 boom! an immediate team name that sounds decent and seems like it has some historical roots
  21. I kooooow!.. can't wait for the buzz/excitement in the QC on match day.. So many matches this summer! Going to USMNT v Nigeria in FL in 2 weeks.. July there's this match in RVA, and the day after catching Man Utd vs. Inter Milan... Then back down here for Liverpool v AC Milan 3 days later!!! Plus World Cup in between !!! Summer of Soccer 2014!!
  22. Just related to USLPRO Soccer in General as an example of what could spawn from a strong USLPRO team support in Uptown. So my hometown USLPRO 'Richmond Kickers' are hosting a match again EPL 'Crystal Palace FC' on July 28th. You can get access to a pre-sale of those tickets IF you pre-purchase tickets online to their match against Charlotte Eagles this Saturday HERE That said, hopefully in another 2 years it will be the QCFC hosting an EPL team at American Legion. Although... I really hope BOA Stadium lands several Copa America Centenario Cup matches in 2016. Imagine seeing talent from such countries as Brazil and Argentina face of in BOA Stadium..
  23. HA, My lady & and I (or some of me &my beer at least) are in both of these pictures, we were literally sitting 6 seats down in the row just below. You never know where a fellow UP'r might be.
  24. first section of the crane base was installed on the pad this morning
