How can anyone be certain this development proposal is "dead" only two months after the posted news articles mentioned several infrastructural and design details were still being worked on?

As of August 26, 2022, this project is transitioning into the design development phase. Construction slated to start in July 2023.

Interesting that they included the LEC with their thinking. I think it would be fantastic to move it and redevelop that property, all the way back to Park Ave as well. Anybody have any insight as to what it would take for the LEC to agree to move, and any thoughts on where else it could be?

Hopefully the presentation gets released publically soon, would love to see their vision.

I've long thought moving the LEC and connecting 385 more seamlessly to Academy then transitioning this area into a more walkable "Arena" district would be transformative for the area and traffic patterns through/around downtown. (Even perhaps building a minor league soccer / multi use outdoor stadium too!)

Just for @btoy, the gateway site project is clearly dead: 

Mayor Knox White said the city is currently collaborating with a party on the old auditorium site already and believes it will be a “huge catalyst” for starting this reinvestment project.

“Once the auditorium site gets the green light, you will start to see some big changes on the gateway to North Street and the surrounding area,” he said. “This project will give people a reason to go to their events early and stay late, much like we have done around the baseball stadium.”

Pieces of the project is anticipated to be completed within the next year or two, said White.

Drove by the site today and portions of the fence were down. Anyone know if this is progress or just the old fence starting to fall down?

It’s my graveyard finally starting construction.  Pinnacle on Main and Peacock tombstones are gonna be installed first.

Thank goodness. I was getting worried one of these proposed projects downtown was actually starting construction. Whew…that was a close one.

I love how they put the “coming in 2020” sign back up on the new fence.  Clearly, this is some sick joke the developers have.

I wouldn't be opposed to a new design and the incorporation of the remaining parcels of land. Nothing that another 20 years can't accomplish...

Maybe the developer forgot they were building it. My graveyard proposal is still on the board.  Would be a great place to film an apocalyptic movie also.

I contacted the DRB. The developer has not gone back for final material approval yet. Not good. Construction can’t start until that happens and gets approved.

The Post & Courier is going to try and get an update on this project along with the proposed convention center like they did with the Kimpton. I’ll let you know if I hear anything.
