Such a great corporate citizen to have in Greenville. Fluor has been pumping it lately. First the move of the nuclear division to Greenville. Numerous contracts for power plants around the US and world. And now look at this article. Look at the dollars Fluor will take in from this contract. Way to go Fluor! :yahoo:

Southern First and First South - the banking industry in Greenville is booming and getting confusing with so many similar names.

Southern First Bank

First South Bank

South Financial Group

First National Bank of the South

Your right, could get confusing.

The following article is a good read on the continuing boom of heavy construction (power plants, public transportation infrastructure, skyscrapers, etc) and how the major engineering companies are performing the work are doing very well. Look under section 1 of the article and the two companies leading the pack are Fluor and Jacobs. This is excellent news for Greenville as both have major campus settings and major bases of operation in Greenville. The two together, employee between 3,000 and 4,000 in Greenville (not counting all the continuing new hires at Fluor in recent months as it's moved more business units here).

Thought the article was good insight into a strong part of the Greenville economy. :good:

Erwin Penland is hiring additional employees to meet the demands of the Verizon account and the Bi-Lo account. In addition, will be adding office space downtown.

I didn't realize that they were the largest in the state. An additional 35+ employees this year and possibly another 50 by the end of 2008. Great stuff! It says their second phase is a building one. I wonder if they'd consider consolidating into one large building, or if they're planning on just popping another building in their line of real estate...

That is what I would prefer to see as well. Combining the two existing buildings, with the new additional space they need (and some for future growth) would yield a pretty impressive building DT (and would be a good way to advertise as well). It could also help to redevlop the EP/Suntrust area.

Maybe they could anchor the Main and McBee building that has never gone vertical. It would be nice to fill in that hole, plus a restuarant/retailer would no doubt be interested in the ground level space. Does anyone remember the square footage that building was suppose to be, and how that compares to Ervin-Penland's current useage?

Of course, the Washington and Main project could use a major office tenant no doubt. Speaking of which, did the developer finally close on the last portions of the Woolworth property? It should have hapened by now.

Hey, that's a great idea about Erwin Penland going to Main at McBee! It's a great location and a nice looking building.

Some new jobs from a couple of different companies. A new tire recycling company expects to employ 100 in a year and help keep thousands of tires out of landfills.

Mustang Engineering will be hiring 30 engineers (making up to 150,000) for an Automation & Control business unit:

The tire recycling company is great! Not only will it keep tires out of landfills, but also the Reedy :silly: . And it's always nice to see more high-paying engineering jobs as well!
