Possibly depending on permits. Because this is residential though I would expect a concrete frame. I haven’t seen structural drawings, but typically residential is concrete and non-resi is steel.

Can you tell if the blasting permit relates to the entire site, or just the YMCA portion?  Hopefully they are going to excavate the whole thing at once.

It’s really strange making that right turn off of Church and no building is there….but it looks like that view won’t last long. It’s amazing how many people have left once all of this construction got started. Some days it’s almost like having your own personal (very nice) gym.

There’s probably some of that, but it was really only closed for one day (to disconnect the electrical). I’ve been going there a long time and I’ve noticed there are people (that I used to know) who know longer go. Then, there were a few New Years resolutioners….but a lot of them have  already dropped off. It’s hard to say, it’s all just perspective on my part. The other part that is noticeable is that the garage is sometimes half empty. That would never have happened before, even with that extra lot in the back that is now gone. My guess is that a lot of people went to other Ys with a pool, basketball court, sauna, steam…etc.

The fencing/covered walkway along Church Street Viaduct is down.  Not sure why.  My guess is they will put up another version of it very soon.

Why is it called ‘shell’ permit? What’s the reason for breaking down permits in parts?

I am not the guy to talk to here, but they break it down into the foundation permit, shell permit and finish out permits. At least those are the three major components from what I have seen when looking at the permits through the years. Why they do it this way I do not know.

Different contractor sets. Shell permits are for measuring/coding concrete and outer construction. Then build-out for measuring/coding electrical, plumbing, etc.

And while I know absolutely nothing about the permitting process, I would imagine there are additional fees associated with each permit so, more money perhaps? Please enlighten me.

You are so correct with that statement. Every permit has fees attached to it.
