That’s interesting.  It looks like a building ftom the 1980s.  I always assumed that it wasn’t very old.

Sadly I do not. Memory sometimes fails. This means it was an unremarkable property as I was familiar with the intersection long ago and had weekday breakfasts many times at Issie Pittle's cafe across the street at the now 1100 S Tryon. Issie=Isaac or Isaiah, do not recall which. 

Consultation with a city directory or such would give answers. Deeds on Polaris from 1997 indicate owner of some part was family of Key Realty, a long time family company. Deeper dive is for someone not me.

I'm guessing the answer is no, but if Riverside were to see much stronger demand than they were anticipating is there any chance that they would/ would be able to bring the office tower back up to 42 stories? I know beggars cant be choosers but I hate how boxy the final design looks compared to the initial renderings.

Absolutely, but I doubt it happens.
