  1. Between "65" and probably "80", downtown was very dangerous. I remember when downtown was off-limits to certain government employees. Fourth Ward was a nice, well kept victorian community that became a ghetto until around 1980 when it started regaining it's identity again through gentrification. There is a serious need for lots more police officers walking the uptown beat.
  2. You know the idiots involved had records a mile long more than likely. The chief of police was bragging on the news the other day that major crime in the city was down in Charlotte. What a liar (manipulator). There have been 42 murders so far and were only a quarter of the way through the year unless he considers murder as a misdemeanor. Personally, I don't care if lowlifes want to kill each other as long as that behavior stays in the bad neighborhoods. I'm tired of uptowns in American cities being destroyed because of degenerates. I would love to see our city more civilized, and it is a bit scary knowing that for its size, it is more so than most others (in the U.S.) Maybe in the near future the trend will be for cleanliness and peacefulness instead of the insanity we see and hear today. I believe that the idea that some maniac may be in your midst is prevalent at all concerts and massive gatherings.
  3. Charlotte and frankfurt have been running nose to nose. Since covid, Frankfurt is now ahead in regard to passengers. However, Charlotte is projected to have a very huge year this year and we will move up the list. The projection is for well over 60 million passengers. I just used Frankfurt for comparison as it has been the airport I 've been using the most lately.
  4. Riverside's Denver development 1900 Lawrence?
  5. That was 15 minutes of wasted time I will never get back. They didn't seem to realize that they are in the business district of the city and the hordes of people are at work or if visiting on a weekend day things could liven up at night when people are dining out, going to sports events, in bars, or maybe enjoying a play. They are young and not very worldly yet, more the Asheville/post-millennial types. I will be in Frankfurt in a couple weeks. Frankfurt is like Charlotte. It isn't a tourist center and the uptown is mostly for business, It has an airport about as busy as Charlotte's where lots of people are stopping to visit other places down the Rhine, Baltic, the Alps or "party towns" like Berlin or Hamburg. But, like Charlotte, Frankfort has tons of activity if you know the city and that is good enough for most here and there. I lived in London when it was the sleepiest big city in the western hemisphere. There wasn't much cool besides Piccadilly and Soho and that was totally for tourists. I hope this couple at least visits South End before moving on. I'm not saying that we live in the most exciting place on earth, but I do believe that they are leaving without doing a very sensible evaluation. This is just my opinion and if you disagree with me, you likely have your justifiable reasons. By the way, this video is a couple of years lold and silly individuals were still running around with surgical maskks on their faces (most pulled down below their noses). It was a quiet time of recovery mostly. in the UK, some would call them "silly Nillys). Tata.
  6. Unless you have sustained a severe head injury, I don't understand why you would even suggest that I discussed fuel production or consumption. . I compared the noise levels of EVs and gas driven cars with no mention of the above. I don't give a crap about how much petrol has been extracted from the earth. Too bad you posted this graph for me and I couldn't care less. LOL. By the way, the topic is electric cars.
  7. As I see it, there are advantages and disadvantages as follows: EVs are not as annoying to listen to as those 4-cylinder slow pieces of crap that are slow but sound like LaMans racecars with bad mufflers or manifolds. On the other hand, EVs are silent but deadly. You don't hear them coming. What is the future of vision impaired people crossing streets? There are plenty of gas stations but very few EV electric hook-ups. Gas propelled cars are more reliable. Oh yea, there are lots more weirdos that drive EVs (I believe I read that in the Charlotte Observer for which I am not a subscriber), Thats all I have. Good posting smeagolsfree. We need more and cheaper petroleum.
  8. Not only Lowes, but Novant Hospital is also very cloes with many doctor's offices. It would be a perfect stop. There is a rail into downtown Mooresville and it would be perfect. I can't image anyone not supporting the red line with the population explosion in the area.
  9. Do people seriously thing that this building will be in the center of nothingness in the future? I welcome construction diversity as long as it doesn't become a center for squatters or freeloaders. Variety is the spice of life, even in construction. How would they like living in London where 80 percent of all homes look identical and have lousy heating and plumbing and parking is a nightmare normally? I was fine with it, but that's me. Thanks for your ray of sunshine reminder.
  10. The only issue I see in Cornelius is at the I-77 bridge pedestrian walkways crossing over the highway. That walkway is confusing with the placement of the zebra crossings insanely configured and that stupid "merging diamond" monstrosity system of construction. I walk a lot and I am particularly careful to not drink too many if I have to walk across the bridge. Other than that, Cornelius is a very walkable town.
  11. There are consecutively just one or two cities in the U.S. larger than Charlotte (population wise) that are growing as quickly, i.e. Dallas or Houston. Developers sometimes want to present uniqueness. Why would they pick Charlotte over Nashville? Maybe developers feel the tower and retail development fit in with the river running through Nashville. Charlotte only has a creek to offer, and it isn't that central.
  12. I believe you are correct in your assessment. Fortunately, our kids generally start seeing reality, forming their own opinions, and questioning their former peer and college instructor driven ideologies the closer they get to 40.
  13. I know some hotels out near the airport are bad and in precarious areas, but uptown and South Park should be a treat for them unless they are just don't adapt to places that aren't their hometown or usual environment. Some people just aren't outgoing and are never adaptive or happy. Their problem. As far as the airport, I think it is as good as any large U.S. airport, better than most. Yea, it gets busy, but that is what makes it prosperous. Charlotte airport has what was the the second best USO in the U.S. That is a plus for veterans and those on active duty.
  14. Don't worry about them. We don't have a shortage or a quota on morons, and we don't need more. Just go along with them. They will just complain about everything so you can't fix it. I'm not saying that lots of hotels in the airport area are in screwed up areas, but we certainly aren't alone. They must not realize that airport areas are usually low rent areas.
  15. Charlotte, but Winston Salem deserves recognition for banking, R.J. Reynolds and other innovations.
