I've often wondered why no one has considered extending Printers Alley as an entertainment district further to the south.  It now appears that the owners of One Nashville Place are looking to do. jus that.   They will go before MDHA Design Review Committee today to seek approval for a beer garden of sorts that would exist on the backside of their building, which borders the famous alley.   This could jumpstart the rest of that portion in being developed as well.

I’ve always thought we could do more with some of our alleys in the core. It’s be cool if they could add some old looking brick on the walls and such to make it look a bit more ‘old world’. That bar that’s there now is really neat.

I thought the little bar between Church and Commerce in the Alley was out of business for some reason. If this is approved then their business will go through the roof. Lots of neon added to Printers Alley all the way from Union to Commerce which will be really cool.

I believe you’re thinking about a different alley. Back alley diner is in the alley that crossed the Arcade. Speaking of which I’m shocked that place stayed open as long as it did.

Alley Taps is what I was thinking of. That is the one I thought was closed, but they are alive and well.

The 3 story, 2,700 sq. ft. home built. in 1900 at 1311 Fourth Ave. North in Germantown is being converted into a bar to be called Proper Pour.

If the BZA does not change their mind about the parking requirement, then this project will not happen. Parking requirements are a little silly now as its already screwy in this area. Might as well drop the parking requirements city wide as the rules are different for a bar than they are a restaurant vs an apartment, hotel, office or what part of town you are in.

 

As always, Metro codes is in the mid 20th  century and not in the 21st century where they belong. Besides this is another example of amateurs running a Metro committee, same as the MDHA. If Metro wants to do things proper, then they need to eliminate citizen led committees appointed by the Mayors office and put professionals on these boards  and make it their job.

The MDHA is now going to be doing sidewalk appeals for sidewalks that fall within their districts because the BZA cant handle all of the appeals simply because of the new Metro guidelines that do not seem to be working.

You make it simple , cut and dried. NO Appeals. It is what it is and you do what the law says. Metro codes needs to totally revamp the zoning, the codes, the committees, and if it takes a change to the Metro Charter they need to do it.

MetroCenter Flats will be the name of new residential project on the empty 6.27 acre plot at 339 Athens Way to be developed by AH Nashville Development LLC, which is affiliated with NYC based Arbor Realty Trust.  They purchased the land for $2.36 million in April. No word on timeline, size, renderings, etc. yet.

I agree.  When it was Brandon's, it was better.  The guy that used to own it also owned The Sports Page on Union.

I was just doing a Google Street View stroll down Printer's Alley to better visualize how this would look and I stumbled upon this. Pour one out for Sam's Sushi.

I expect these will be garden style apartments as that is what is on either side of the property now and seems to be under the same UZO.

SmileDirectClub has leased 37,000 sq. ft. of space covering 3 floors of the UBS Tower.  That building will house 600 employees by the end of January (already 200 there). They also occupy 40,000 sq. ft. of space at Philips Plaza.  The company is now up to about 2,000 employees in Nashville since relocating here in 2016.  Plans are for another 2,000 over the next five years.

A 3 story mixed-use structure is being planned for the empty .34 acre lot at 1402 Buchanan St.  Jackson Builders purchased it for $400,000 earlier this week, and wants to a structure that features main floor retail, and residential units on the 2nd and 3rd floors.  Zoning is already in place.  Building Ideas will be the architect. A Feb. 2020 groundbreaking is planned. No renderings available yet. 

This will continue to help the slow-but-steady percolation of activity that is igniting positive change along the Buchanan corridor.
