I hate to say this and I hate to see this happen to a poor little old immigrant from Belarus as my parents are immigrants, but if Cherry Berry didn’t succeed as a chain, I’m not sure how she will? Rent is probably super high there and the parking freaking sucks

We used to go to Cherry Berry a lot, but I was under the impression that Covid did them in.  They closed a couple of months after lock-down IIRC.

the Midtown area.  New apartments rising behind the 2 Medical Office Buildings on Greenwood Cliff.  With the Pearl nearby and the new high rise tower to rise at the Metropolitan this area will be rapidly changing.  Today on foot.   The 5th small office from a house is called the Hold Out which is too funny.

The Office building on Baxter and Kings that was floated years ago is moving again in Planning Review, maybe have some news here again soon.

Why they put mast-arm traffic signals on Kings and Pearl Park Way, but not on Kenilworth or the intersection with Harding Place will never make sense. Not much CDOT does seems to make sense, though.

New midtown apartment by Pappas wrapping up behind Canopy HQ near Pearl Park.  Walking distance to the Pearl med district.  Leasing office open in the Canopy HQ already. 

 

I wish Northwood would go ahead and start this tower at the Metropolitan.

Can someone better at Accela than me pull this permit?  The scope makes it sound like it is just for removing the West Elm upfit but maybe I’m wrong. 

This place feels lifeless now - I didn’t pass anyone on foot or see a single person walk inside the facial spot, tattoo remover or teriyaki place as I walked around just before lunch yesterday.

Open Rice has been extremely successful so far. Especially on sundays since they started serving dim sum which is much needed since there aren’t a lot of dim sum spots around here. Hopefully more spots fill in though. Pisces looks like it’s seen better days too lol. They need to go back to AYCE sushi lunches again. Also Wish they’d fill in the old hickory tavern spot. That was a nice place to grab a beer when in that area.

Yeah, It really does seem like Metropolitan has been struggling for a minute. No one has taken the old Staples space yet (besides the seasonal Spirit Halloween), which is surprising, as I thought Ross was moving there. I also noticed many of the Best Buys in Charlotte got full remodels, except for the Metropolitan location, which makes me question it’s future. Maybe the nearby Pearl District and other development can help with the vacancies.

Well here is a new tenant which might bring some new life to the Metropolitan (and I think it will given its location)

I don't subscribe so I'm unable to read it but I'm assuming this is going onto the old Hickory Tavern spot.  This should be a step up from that because, let's be honest, while Hickory Tavern is OK it still is a pretty middling, uninspiring chain.

My wish has been granted lol. Although Hickory was just an okay chain like the person above mentioned, but it was the only casual place to grab a beer while the boss lady was shopping at Trader Joe’s, Target or Marshall’s lol. Glad this is going in there now and will fit well with the outdoor music series they have every Thursday too.

doesn't say the exact spot in the Metropolitan but it said overlooking the greenway.

I don't think its the Hickory Tavern space, permits were filed for "Fernwood Tavern," the LLC of which is owned by Bayhaven Group that owns Leah and Louise in that space.

Hmmm, what’s the sqft of hickory tavern space? Article states 4K I think. Only other space facing greenway would be the old west elm maybe?

The post from JT with this particular pic and the giant patio space reference kinda made look like the hickory tavern space but  4K seems a lot bigger than that.

Today's CBJ "Northwood Ravin filings show work starting on an apartment tower in Charlotte's midtown neighborhood" by Elise Franco

Excerpt:  "Northwood Ravin appears to be moving ahead with plans for a high-rise apartment tower on a midtown site it's owned since 2020."  "The Charlotte-based multifamily developer, led by CEO David Ravin, is planning for a building of up to 283 units at the corner of Metropolitan Avenue and South Kings Drive.  The development is expected to include a parking deck and ground-floor retail.  Renderings from Northwood Ravin's website show a 20-story tower on top the parking structure."  "Northwood filed land development permits with the city on Sept. 20 for land site inspection and grading.  Site work there is to include demolition, storm water updates and utility taps to existing mains.  The 1.3-acre property is currently undeveloped green space behind the Metropolitan mixed-use complex.  The project is listed as "currently under development" on the company's website."

Well it’s about dang time…..!  Hopefully ground will be broken on this project by years end.  I do credit The Pearl - Medical School construction for spurring this development.  This high-rise will probably open for leasing  a year or two after the First Phase of the Medical School is completed and could garner quick lease up.  I’m sure Pappas High-Rise across the road will probably start too in 2024.

That looks... impressively tall. I wonder what the final height will be. It will do a lot to spread out the high rise density of the urban core.

I think the Rezoning Approval previously passed for this site (many years ago) was either 285’ or 299’ Max Building Height.

I swear this city is obsessed with buildings just below 100' increments. I won't complain though, good looking project.
