    MoRA

Not sure what area to call this so I’m dropping it in MoRa. The building at 3200 Monroe Road has been undergoing a lot of updates lately. Paint, seems like the spaces have been sub-divided differently. Last week they installed new windows. Since we live nearby we are hoping to see more shops and restaurants pop up along this portion of Monroe.
  2. Did I just miss that Asana bought Cotswold Village or did this stay quiet? From The Ledger: Cotswold mall rezoning: The new owner of the Cotswold Village shopping center has submitted a rezoning request to the city to change the zoning to a “neighborhood center,” a designation that allows multifamily housing along with businesses. The application contained no details but listed the “proposed use” as “residential,” according to city documents. Asana Partners bought the mall in October for $110M.
  3. Admittedly this is a terrible, far away picture but construction fencing has gone up at the old Mecklenburg Furniture building. 520 Providence Rd
  4. Finally feels like meaningful progress has been made at the former Dollar General space. The leasing site seems to show the large restaurant space is still available. Has someone has signed a lease for this spot? The 5/3 branch closed in the Fall, rumor is they had problems with flooding.
  5. I’m seeing chatter that Sprouts is the grocery store taking the spot in NoDa. Has this been announced on a different page and I missed it? Does this mean they are looking for a GC for this project? I would have expected they would be way further along in the process than just now soliciting bids. But maybe I’m reading the invitation to bid incorrectly.
  6. There was a “Pop-Up Picnic” on the lawn on Saturday. These tents may be leftover from that event.
  7. Has anyone looked at the approved plans for the rebuilt Chick-fil-A lately? Now that demo is done they are already doing site work. I thought they were moving all of the curb cuts to be closer to the Publix entrance but it appears they are pouring curb cuts close to the original entrance.
  8. Apparently the owner of the outer strip hates having a Starbucks there and wants them to move. Rumor has it the owner disliked it so much they aren’t renewing the lease. Asana doesn’t own that outer parcel, right? So maybe a move to this part of the center would make sense.
  9. Today at the old Dollar General on 7th Street. Haven’t heard any info about tenants other than some neighbors are opening a wine bar in one of the new spots.
  10. Didn’t catch a picture but just saw what looks like core drilling in the parking lot of the old flower shop on Providence. In the same lot as the Manor Theatre.
  11. Sorry, Colonial Barbershop in the shopping center with Fancy Pants and Volo, Harris Teeter in the parking lot. I tried to find it on Accela but had no luck. I think the parcel is 15510165. The space is in the basement on the far right side of the building. There used to be a dry cleaner/shoe repair in one of the spots and the other was an aerial studio for a while. They’ve both been empty for a few years.
  12. Took my son to get a haircut at the barber shop in Myers Park today and there is a bunch of construction going on in the spaces in the basement. I asked the barber and he said they are building a kid friendly cafe. Has anyone else heard this?
  13. Can someone better at Accela than me pull this permit? The scope makes it sound like it is just for removing the West Elm upfit but maybe I’m wrong. This place feels lifeless now - I didn’t pass anyone on foot or see a single person walk inside the facial spot, tattoo remover or teriyaki place as I walked around just before lunch yesterday.
  14. I was reminded today that Conformity bought the old school that has been home to the International House. Per the story on WFAE the site is being marketed as an interesting opportunity (or some similar adjective). Has anyone seen the JLL marketing materials?
