  1. That’s nice! Almost makes up for the loss of the grey bungalow where Fuze salon was.
  2. From today’s Biz Journal. Wegmans likely to have two or even three stores here eventually. Says their first store won’t deliver till late 2026. “But the search is already on for its second location — and possibly a third, says Dan Aken, the company's vice president of real estate. "Given the size of the market, there's definitely multiple opportunities for us and we are already having some conversations with other developers in the area and just trying to understand what would make the most sense for us," he says. Aken says a second store in Charlotte wouldn't likely happen for two to three years after it enters the market.” https://www.bizjournals.com/charlotte/news/2024/04/16/wegmans-grocery-store-ballantyne-expansion-plans.html
  3. “Placeholder”. After like 8 years? I’ve honestly forgotten how long it’s been.
  4. Saw my first Vinfast on Monroe Rd and Wendover just now. I didn’t even know they were on sale yet. Are they building them here yet? I didn’t think they were. It’s bigger than I had expected. This is the best pic I could get before the light turned.
  5. “The property included 700-square-feet of brand new office space on almost 100 acres, all of which sat empty. Vanguard says it will consolidate its 2,400 regional employees at the new building next year.” Now THAT’S dense.
  6. Article in the O with some deets on the new LV at SP. Says they now carry the full “Louis Vuitton Universe”. I don’t know if that’s everything or what terminology they use for what, but it looks impressive. I likely won’t ever see the inside. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/article287097650.html
  7. They’re gonna start selling Krispy Kreme donuts at all McDonald’s. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/state/north-carolina/article287096625.html?tbref=hp
  8. Ah, thank you. I wonder if they can salvage the original brick?
  9. This first render includes the old 4W Bread Co building, but didn’t they just make a statement that the building was beyond repair and would be demo’d? Maybe they’ll reconstruct the facade, but is that what this shows? Or is this from when they thought they could still build above and around it?
  10. This is a snapshot from the Biz Journal. I love this angle of the city. I went through and found the only buildings in this entire image that existed when I moved here in 1994 (my God, time flies). Not even the stadium was there. That’s a massive amount of construction in 30 years. *edit - and BofA CC had only been completed 18 months before that!
  11. Interesting article on CNN today about Macy’s closing 150 stores but expanding Bloomingdale’s, which has been a stronger performer for them. Wonder if any of this will affect SP… https://www.cnn.com/2024/02/27/investing/macys-closing-150-stores/index.html >>”The company said that as it closes Macy’s locations, it will open new stores for its luxury brands. Macy’s said it will open 15 new Bloomingdale’s stores and 30 new Bluemercury locations over the next three years. It also plans to remodel 30 existing Bluemercury stores. “The Bloomingdale’s expansion can work as there are several strong luxury markets where the chain is not represented.”
  12. See? I told you there were people on here smarter than me. Thanks for the education. I’m all for those initiatives, but still anti-poop/wanking. Still a hard no on that.
  13. My “do nothing” comment was in response to the No votes. I’m probably not as informed a citizen as I could be, and certainly not as much as many on this board, but was there a plan offered from the No votes to actually try to formulate a solution? Or just whine about unfairness? I’m honestly not trying to be antagonistic with the “whine” comment, but good God, I didn’t campaign and run for office, these people did. And I’m not a cold hearted person at all - I routinely buy (or offer to buy) homeless food if I’m at a gas station in lieu of giving money (I don’t really carry cash anyway). I guess I’m just wondering what’s the next step after No? Doesn’t appear our elected leaders have a clue. I hear you when you say “we need to build more…”. Sure, we do. But are we? As much as I constantly hear about affordable housing and whatnot, when and where does that rubber meet the road? I feel like that’s all I hear about from city/county officials, but where is it? 7th and Tryon? Anywhere else? And that’s below-market housing, right? Doesn’t seem like that’s gonna work for the homeless. The Houston article shows they have the goods, but is anyone here in local government listening? Do they have Google? I’m just a guy who lives uptown and am sick of this crap (pardon the pun). Not sick enough to sell and move, but c’mon. And not trying to be argumentative, just frustrated. I just don’t want to clean sh*t off my home. I feel like that’s not a high bar.
  14. As someone who lives uptown and just last night had to clean human feces, soiled underwear, socks, and even pants from our walkway, I’m fine with “re-criminalization” or however one wants to phrase it. I get living uptown you take the good with the bad. As a 21yr resident, I’m not blind to this fact, but we can’t pretend that the folks who’ve decided to personally invest in uptown should have to live in an environment like this and just be ok with it. It’s getting worse, not better. I’m an independent liberal-leaner, but enough is enough. I’m not sure, maybe the anti-criminalization folks would be ok cleaning sh*t off your home? Semen? That form of “doing nothing” sounds worse to me.
  15. Agree. The Westin does seem tired. They need to fix the fountain spouts and up lighting on that corner facing the JW. They haven’t worked in like 10 years.
  16. So… a little bit of a different topic here, but around 715P tonight did anyone see a giant UFO over Independence? Friends of mine live in Oakhurst and were getting in their hot tub in their backyard and captured it on video. This craft was moving east very slowly and very low. I can’t load the videos here obviously, but have some still shots. The pattern looks like those triangular shaped light arrangements from those crafts that all those people saw in Phoenix about 10 years ago. I haven’t seen anything downtown here but has anybody seen or heard anything about this? And yes, I believe in aliens.
  17. Omg I want IN!! At the risk of a thread derail, I’m a Lego kid from the 80s and gifted all of my sets (still in the original boxes) to my friends’ son a few years ago. Was just at their house yesterday working on new Christmas sets!
  18. I actually did go to the Lego Towers of Tomorrow show a few years ago at Discovery Place. No Charlotte buildings to be found there, but there’s this… https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-53025/klosspalatset/charlotte-skyline/#details
  19. Wouldn’t it be so cool if someone put together a mini-city display of all the models like this that have been built over the years? I wonder if they use the same scale. I know there’s one of BofA CC I’ve seen before.
  20. ^So probably a dumb question, but do they have plans for the old overgrown RR tracks that go through there?
  21. Anything is possible till we know otherwise, but since the word is this is for a “tenant”, it sounds like it’s a single entity and not multiple displaced stores. The mall Zara’s I’ve seen are two floors so it seems like this would be that, with an in-store escalator to reach the upper level. It has to be Zara.
  22. From the Ledger today. Plans for a second story over top of where Gap currently is. Wonder if this will be where Zara goes with an upper and lower level?
  23. I didn’t realize CPCC had a new logo. Just noticed this today stopped at the light on 7th St. & Kings. I like it. Maybe it’s not news but I hadn’t seen it before.
