That was the first home of the Grand Ole Opry, before they moved to the Ryman. The National Life and Accident Insurance Company, who moved from the 12 story building to the new tower, owned WSM radio,  clear channel station that could be heard all over the US at night, needed programming and broadcast local talent from a studio in the building.  It was later named the "Grand Ole Opry' because it follow ed the weekly broadcast of the Metropolitan Opera.

Fun fact; there is a massive abstractish sculpture hanging on the wall over the ticket counters in the BNA lobby which represents a vocal waveform of George D. Haye saying 'the Grand Ole Opry'...

The caption says Williamson county. And yes, I'd like a place right there at the top of the hill on the right.

Another move came two years later on June 13, 1936, to the Dixie Tabernacle – a 3,500 seat religious revival house with wooden benches, sawdust floors, and no dressing rooms – at 410 Fatherland Street in East Nashville.

The houses in the foreground are in the Bradford Hills subdivision off Nolensville Pike near Lenox Village.

Had a day off so I went to the library this morning and dragged the wife and kid through downtown afterwards to snap a few on-the-street shots. Thought all you Nashvillians who are living away from home would enjoy them.

I wish they hadn't removed all the chairs and tables from the 5/3 plaza! I used to grab a bite from the market across the street and eat there. It was such a great little respite downtown.
