Incorrect. Brown's estate is on the South Carolina side of the Savannah River across from Augusta in a heavily wooded area. I guess his body is still there, however weirdly that may be.

I'm not trying to be gross, but I hope they have some sort of preservation system in place. Keeping a corpse in a room-temperature house - even if it's in a coffin - is not the way to go!

The room is supposed to be climate controlled. But they need to go ahead and get him in the ground already and stop waiting to get the legal issues cleared up.

This would have been just like any other positive change. A few people would have whinned and complained until they got used to it, and business would have been just as good (or better) than it had been before. Then in a few years people would look back and say how much nicer it was that they could breathe easily in restaurants, stores, etc. Now, once again, we are catering to a vocal few.

Just MHO.

Anyone have a list of the 10 restaurant owners that won't get another dollar from me??? I must also thank them personally...

Just because they filed the lawsuit doesn't mean they will allow smoking. From what I gathered from the story, the Blue Martini was one of the bars who filed, but as of now, is to remain smoke free.

I think we need to start a new thread which lists non-smoking restaurants for those who are looking for a night out without the annoyance of second-hand smoke.

Sounds good.

Thanks NYT! And it is so great to "see" you again. Hope all is well wherever you are.

Thanks Skyliner! Good to "see" all of you too. I've been lurking a bit trying to catch up on news. I've been doing quite a bit of traveling. I typically run toward Boston, NYC and Zurich consistently. Things are not really settling down for me, but I'm going to make a concious effort to stay in touch here on UP. I miss all the folks here and the "insider" discussions.

This should not be a local matter. When it is, it affects local businesses in a negative way. This should be a state matter.

It seems to me that would make it a local matter. Shouldn't local governments have the authority to impose laws upon themselves? I'm not sure why the state would be in a better position to pass this law than a local authority.

When a municipality passes an ordinance like this, it causes some grief for those business located on the edges of the boundary. You may have noticed that some GVL County business immediately started advertising, "Smokers Welcome." I won't enter into the should/shouldn't debate, but if such a ban is going to work well, it needs to be on the state level, and be done with it.
