Since no buildng is currently under construction anyone know what the next one will be and when it might start. Are they buildng one at a time?

Everything in phase 1 is slated to be under construction at the same time which is everything highlighted in the below images. It looks like you should see the buildings start to rise in September:

This will likely be a nice addition but having two new restaurants in town both named 'Perch' is not ideal.

While titles of books, songs, movies and businesses cannot be copyrighted, logos and branding can be trademarked. Did they realize we already had a “Perch” restaurant? There was only one way to find out, so I reached out to Doug Dunlay, partner at 4 Star Restaurant Group.

“We were not aware. We’ll change the name and announce the new name as we get closer, and for now we’ll just keep it as a placeholder,” I was told.

I don’t understand the hoopla. There are two Lowe’s. You have the grocery store and the home improvement retailer. Why can’t there be two Perch’s?

Because having two RESTAURANTS with the same name is confusing.  A grocer and a home improvement store are two very different retail orbits.

Agreed.  You are right.

Is anything from the original mall interior still there at County Square? If so, it would be a nice trip down memory lane to do another stroll through it and recall the days of Baskin-Robbins and Woolco.

While that’s technically true, telling somebody you’re going to Lowe’s isn’t any different than telling somebody you’re going to Perch. And hasn’t the Perch in Chicago been around longer than the one in Greenville anyways? If there was some sort of naming rights dispute which there obviously won’t be now who would have the better change at winning that battle? The Chicago one of course.

1. What Vicupstate said is correct.  It’s Intellectual Property Law 101.

2. How does having two Perch restaurants illustrate that Greenville is a complete and utter failure as a city, your usual point  no matter what the facts are?

Silt fencing now going up around the future Whole Foods. Steel fencing now going up at parking lot of current county square office building. The side of the current parking lot closest to the new veterans memorial is now closed off to the public. Lots of moving trucks on site. Surveyors all over the place. Thruston Street between Howe Street and University Ridge now closed off to the public. Reeves Young is the general contractor responsible for new site grades, utilities, road infrastructure, and other streetscape improvements:

Is this the end of free parking at county square?  I knew that we didn't have it for much longer which is a bummer, but I'm excited to see this area transform.

Looks that way unless you want to park in the new garage:

“Come Monday, county leaders said there will no longer be access to parking in the County Square parking lot. Instead there will be nearly 1,000 free parking spaces in a new parking garage. Electric charging stations are also available.“

Some tidbits from the P&C:

Lima One Capital, a real estate investment lender based in Greenville, recently announced plans to lease 60,000 square feet in the project’s first office building.

It will be 2025 at least before that building is completed and Lima One Capital is able to relocate to County Square. Lima One will occupy two floors of what renderings show as a seven-story building. The goal of adding 800,000 square feet of Class A office space to the Greenville central business district is “a 10-year plan,” Tollison said. The construction of new office complexes is hamstrung by the current dynamics of commercial financing, which essentially dictates that any office building has to be preleased before it starts rising out of the ground.

The most recent mixed-use building constructed in downtown Greenville with Class A office space was Falls Tower at Camperdown, which was completed in 2020. Since then, rising construction costs have translated into higher per-square-foot leasing rates. Bank of America and the accounting firm Elliott Davis moved into the Camperdown complex for rents around $33 per square foot, Tollison said. Lima One Capital’s rate in the County Square project will be around $43 per square foot, he added.

County Council recently passed a resolution alongside its budget that it intends to use some proceeds to roll back the county’s tax rate. Once the project is fully developed, the county projects it will generate more than $25 million a year in new tax revenue.

County Council will hold its July 18 meeting inside council chambers at the old building where it’s expected to hold a final vote on its 2024-2025 fiscal year budget. The meeting will be in the old building because it was advertised in required public notice to be held there, Mihalic said.

The county will close public access to its old parking lots near County Square in the coming weeks as crews prepare to demolish the old County Square, Mihalic said.

If we submit a review on Perch you could post about the wrong one. If you tell someone you loved Perch, they don't know which one you mean. if you saying 'I going to Lowe's to get some nails', no one thinks you're going to a grocery store.

I'm going to Lowes to pick up some steaks (stakes). 😀

The part closest to the stadium can still be used for parking was what I was asking. Doubt many peeps will use the new PG for Drive games.

The entire left side of that parking lot would normally fill up on game night, and at least half of that section is marked as closed.   So some will need to overflow into other locations.   Hopefully they'll still run the trolleys to the garage.
