I believe it’s just Planning Commission staff level review just like you saw with the county office building and parking garage. That was part of the deal the city made with the county for the height reductions. 

I imagine this proposed building is going somewhere on the former DHEC site as that part of the site is a lot further along than the rest of it in terms of grading and infrastructure work.

I guess it could be as that site is also shovel ready and is slated for a multi family building.

They APPLIED for a building permit, it hasn't been issued.

Ahhh…gotcha. Thanks. There are workers on the high rise site next to the parking garage today so maybe. It’s either that or the building slated to go in next to Whole Foods Market. Those appear to be the only two options right now. Renderings of each:

Ha! It each their own. I'm Team-Door #1.     All brick façade. Porches. Ground floor retail. Wide & shaded sidewalks with areas for flowers. Rooftop plantings.  6-8 stories. Give me this - everywhere.

Agreed.  How many downtowns these days are getting stores such as those that downtown Greenville is getting?  How many downtowns have gone from the downtown Greenville of 1985 (anchored by Woolworth's and with lots of vacancies) to this?

As someone who grew up decades ago, I just still can't get over how nice downtown is and how much even better it's getting.  To me, downtown = run-down buildings and no reason to go there, and the County Square site = Bell Tower Mall (anchored by a Woolco and largely vacant, and thus no reason to go there).  Really amazing how public and private actors have transformed this part of town to make even better than anyone 30-50 years ago ever could have expected.
