Franklin aldermen last night voted to annex 7 acres of land for a new Refuge Center for Counseling.  To be located at 4321 Long Lane, the 2 story structure would have 15,000 sq. ft.  featuring counseling rooms, play therapy areas, exercise therapy areas and a community waiting room. The land would also provide an open air prayer chapel, picnic pavilion, an outdoor play structure and gardens.

Some of the land is on an incline, which will render it unable for development. That land will become open space and hiking trails.

No renderings yet.

The 34 acre Ovation auction bid from last Friday has now been given to Ovation Loan Group, an affiliate of Atalaya Capital Mgt. for $40.5 million. This is instead of Amir Karshenas, who had won the bid last Friday at $42 million, but then couldn't come up with the funds from his Middle Eastern investor.

Randy's Record Shop in Gallatin is set to be demolished in 90 days accroding to a vote by Gallatin City Council a few days ago. This was the the largest mail order record store in the world back in the 50s and 60s, and was particularly popular in Country Music circles. But it went out of business in 1991, and the structure has been empty and falling into horrible disrepair (roof collapse among other problems) for 28 years.  Some groups have tried raising awareness and money to save the structure and turn it into a tourist attraction/museum, (estimates to do so run around $1million), but have only been able to garner only $2,100 from 25 donors.

This echos what I've been saying about all the public uproar about saving so many structures in relation Music Row: it's easy for people to bellyache, but very few seem willing to actually donate and/or roll-up their sleeves to save these buildings, and then figure out how to make them a profitable entity.

Apparently we can't have nice things in the Boro. I know it's not a Murfreesboro only problem but certainly feels like the non-chain options here are dwindling at a time when we're experiencing massive growth. This one is especially painful as the place was always busy when we were there but seems they fell victim to the midweek lull. Definitely appreciate the years we had them but it does sting a bit knowing they won't be around for the future.

(Of course the lack of unique variety is what drives us to Nashville more often than not. Nothing like this place in Nashville though.)

The Green Dragon Pub and Brewery is "closed permanently," the owner confirmed.

Saturday was the final night of service for the beloved, affectionately known as the "Hobbit bar."

"The Dragon had a wonderful time serving the wonderful people of the 'Boro," owner Joe Minter said in a message to The Daily News Journal.

Let's be honest though, it was a terrible location tucked back where the majority of people in town didn't even know was there. Even if you drove by it, it looked like an uninviting warehouse building. Not saying it wasn't cool or that I wanted it to fail, just that the location was bad. It needed to be on the square or in walking vicinity to it.

I know this is a bit further south in Bedford County, but it is news of note: Shelbyville will be home to a large new distillery and attraction for Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey.  The 270 acre site will feature traditional elements like rick houses, bottling facilities and a tasting room. In the years to come, she wants it will become an ode to Tennessee with unique nods to the state’s history and culture, including mini-golf, barbecue and a chance to ride Shelbyville steeds.
