I def wouldn't consider this to look as good as the J.W., but I do like the design. I would much rather have hotels looking like this, than say the Westin (which I will never be able to look at without a feeling of disgust)

It's definitely better looking than the Westin...but nothing remarkable, either.  I'll keep hoping for more interesting designs...whether it be in the style of the JWM, the Schermerhorn, the MCC, the CMHoF, etc.

The Amazon RFP was publicly released. There will be hundreds of responses. Who knows what’s really going to happen.

That area will be completely transformed before we know it. With these two, the project at the Deja Vu site, and whatever gets planned for the tennessean building and the Exxon site, that area will be unrecognizable in 3-5 years.

Steve Johnson, the executive VP of Gresham Smith & Partners (Nashville-based company that offer architecture, engineering, land planning and interior design services) participated in a wide-ranging interview about development in downtown Nashville in today's Nashville Post.  Here are a few thoughts he had about Nashville Yards:

"The former Lifeway campus brings a lot of aesthetic interest to the CBD but also a lot of urban challenges: narrow sidewalks, steep and hilly topography, and the impact of the Church Street viaduct on 10th Avenue, among others. The development team explored numerous options to keep parts of the existing campus intact, but we ultimately determined that those efforts would compromise our ability to create a rich, vibrant urban pedestrian district."

"One of our primary goals is to balance design strategies by providing a diverse backdrop for pedestrian-scale activities that still feels coherent and logical."
