I rather enjoy that woods tunnel portion of the trail there.

I like that section as well. But..everytime I bike through there I hear Frodo Baggins saying "Get off the road"

No worries. Cheers.

p.s. I have never felt threatened there (and have biked that section hundreds of times),

Just as @smileguytipped us off a while back, the beloved former Steak ‘n Shake on E. Colonial at Primrose will become a pot dispensary.

Instead of the steakburger eatery’s longtime motto of “It’s A Meal”, I guess we’ll have to change it now to “It’s A Buzz”.

With the construction getting moving on the 50/Fern Creek apartments, let's look at the corridor further out.

Study for 700+ Units at Colonial Plaza (there has been discussion of additional residential on the site as well, so keep your eyes open. https://bungalower.com/2022/02/20/ask-bungalower-is-it-true-theyre-going-to-knock-down-colonial-plaza-for-new-apartments/

1400 units at Fashion Square - https://bungalower.com/2021/11/16/preliminary-plans-submitted-for-fashion-square-mall/

8-story tower at Colonial and Bennett (north of the intersection, with Colonial Dr. access, and possible second development adjacent the site to the North.  - https://www.growthspotter.com/news/residential-property-developments/multi-family/gs-news-mill-creek-bennett-20220113-ejuwfhpgrfhuxdcrqx6ojwz6um-story.html

I just have to wonder who is going to live in all of  these overpriced apartments?

This makes you want to cry. We practically begged them to make apartments of the Jordan Marsh building and were ignored while the city was ponying up $1 million to build a nondescript power center (as they called them back then).

I’m a little surprised about Goodyear. Not only are they a mainstay of the neighborhood but they do a lot of government and business fleet maintenance. It’s not the sexiest business if Kimco wants to go upscale, but they’re important in the area. I wonder if they’re thinking about moving.

Coincidentally came across two things related to your post this week:

1. Lynx et al commissioned a study for a Hwy 50 bus rapid transit route and associated transit-oriented development. One of the study areas was Colonial Plaza:

2. Related to the Colonial and Bennett project(s), Bungalower just posted that the people behind Gilt are taking over the southern portion of Wall Street downtown. It's not mentioned, but I wonder if this is in preparation for said project.

This whole area along Colonial (between Primrose and 436) has some of the highest zoning in the entire city.

IIRC there was a planned complex on the west side of Bumby across from Colonial Plaza as well.

A few townhomes.  There has been some activity on those permits but the developer isn't answering their phone,  and the voicemail is full.

something with some height (8 stories) is really good out here; it gives a sense of place when approaching and viewing from a distance; a landmark so to speak.

You mean like the iconic Jordan Marsh tower the city gave $1 million to a destroyer with no vision to destroy?

Wasn't quite sure where to post this...but the wrecking ball has hit the office building closest to Urbon (next to Fashion Square Mall). I don't know what is headed there (too tired to look....more apartment shop/condos...maybe a lovely miniature golf course?). Either THAT or a fairly large meteor crashed there (although the local news is silent thus far). Regardless...this building is getting a full fledged beatdown currently.

I saw it was fenced off, but I thought it was the parking lot only.  Didn't realize it was the whole building.   Still said for lease office out front.   Is Kimley Horn and Ruby Tuesday still there in the other building?

Kimley is in the Plaza. They moved a few years back.

Boston Market on E. Colonial is closed.  Weirdly all the signage is still up.  Just stays for lease and the landscaping isn't maintained anymore and it doesn't come up on the company's website.

Maybe they should have stayed part of McDonald’s…

Now that the ones at SoDo and E. Colonial are gone (not to mention the great meatloaf at the Lunch Basket), it would be great to split the distance and open one downtown again. @codypet, call the folks at Society, stat!

A new Boston Market would be infinitely better than another 7-Eleven…

Don't forget Winter Park Village recently closed too.   I'm inclined to believe the local restaurant options have just gotten so strong in the core that the other options are just there.  The other option is the franchisee was just humming along.  About a decade ago the stores around here started getting modern updates, but these stores never got them.   That said if I wanted a big dinner like at Boston Market, I'd be more inclined to go to Publix for one of their "heavy meals".

Bring back Piccadilly! I did think it’s interesting Florida has more locations than any other state. We old folks want our veggies!

Anybody know what is going on behind Fashion Square (along Maguire and McCullough)? It was previously an empty parking lot next to the Aurora On The Trail apartments. All the remaining trees have been removed and bulldozers are ripping up the old parking pavement. The whole area is fenced off. Just wondering. Cheers.

It's probably apartments that are part of an overall redevelopment master plan....

I'm sorry, but the white elephant in the room is that in the same graphic, you have "Dick's" Sporting Goods and "Woodcock" Road.  Yes, a little immature, I know...

Anyway... that parking lot near the Dillards already has very nice tree cover in the islands between spaces.  Hopefully they utilize them as existing tree canopy.  I like that triangular apartment building proposal; it fits that lot rather nicely.  I don't know if their plan includes townhouses or not; maybe that would offer a good mix of uses.
