The SEC's contract with Atlanta expires in 2026. Why would SEC commit to Nashville when the stadium is expected to be ready by 2027 at the earliest, and we don't even have the master developer selected for the surrounding development? The stadium pays for itself mainly via the Hotel/Motel tax. Credit Rating agencies agree, and even Bob Mendes agrees. We do have a ticket tax, credit to Freddie O'Connell's amendment. 3% going to general fund. 10% was ridiculous.

I am glad the stadium got an A  and A-rating(below the overall city rating of AA+). 

 

This does not sound like the SEC is considering Nashville:  “in the process of working with Mercedes Benz Stadium” to extend the contract to keep the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta."

 

I think the citizens should benefit from large developments they are helping to pay for, not massive corporations.

I wouldn't bet the mortgage, but I would contend that no one on the '"sales" team used the SEC Championship Game as a viable opportunity/selling point as it's firmly entrenched in Atlanta.  I never saw a reference to the possibility of an SEC Football Championship game when the opportunities for Final Fours and Super Bowls were discussed.  Although, Spryidon did say that Nashville wouldn't stop asking.

I think the citizens should benefit from large developments they are helping to pay for, not massive corporations.

Citizens are foregoing the new 1% hotel/motel tax on hotel guests for the stadium instead of potentially going to something else. Citizens are not "paying" with their property taxes for this stadium. There is a proportionate amount (~$35MM) of state money coming from Nashville, however.  If you decide to attend the stadium's surrounding development and spend your money there, 50% your sales tax dollars will go to the general fund (currently generating $0) and 50% will go to repaying the stadium debt. 

General obligation bonds could be used for the surrounding development, parks, and East Bank development (if TIF is not solely used), but the east bank would have been developed with a new stadium or renovation to the current one. 

Finally, it is projected that $130MM will go to general fund from ticket tax on non-NFL events alone over 30 years. $280MM is projected in new sales tax revenue to the general fund. TBD on how much RET $ will go to general fund from surrounding development because it may be used as a TIF, but if it is, that means your property taxes won't go to that specific development.

Yes I would prefer everything to be privately financed, but this deal is a good deal for Nashville, especially compared to litigation.

One thing we should all know by now, never say never!! And for all the naysayers and haters out there- Never count Nashville out!

The first two years of the SEC Championship game were played in Birmingham of all places and the SEC office is still there. So I’ll definitely ask, why not Nashville?

Metro Sports Authority made the milestone decision Thursday to issue $760 million worth of revenue bonds to finance the construction of a new $2.1 billion enclosed East Bank NFL stadium and concert arena.

The unanimous vote followed a series of meetings to study the complex deal. In the end, a lingering concern for the authority was to ensure that a significant part of the construction and design team are minority-owned businesses.

25% of $2.1BN is over $500MM in contracts for Minority and Women Owned Businesses. That's incredible for local Nashvillians. Compare that to $70MM for Geodis Park (20%).

Looks great. Now if they would find a way to light the translucent panels at night to  show the tri-Star State emblem or perhaps the Titan logo, imagine the aerial views. Heck, I would be impressed if it was able to change colors or show the Ring of Fire!

All towers on the East bank are subjective and are the artist rendering only. We have no idea how this will turn out.
