Happenings throughout Concord.  Not a pretty site at the old Barber Scotia College campus though...hopefully this prime piece of real estate can be restored to productive soon!

Right! Was checking out zillow and home values and we all know Harrisburg is somewhat pricey.. but wow I was very shocked at the million dollar homes just across 485..... some beautiful neighborhoods and the tree canopy is phenomenal as well.

If Barber-Scotia isn't given the attention by the city and community and gets torn down I'm throwing my hands up. I've been disappointed in Concord for decades at their lackadaisical interest in the Barber-Scotia area.

Looks like it will be on the same block as the ballpark.

this would be the tallest building in Cabarrus County as right now that is the Embassy Suites by the speedway.  Plus if built the tallest apartment tower outside of Meck county in the entire region.   It is looks like it is right next to the baseball stadium by the restored theater.

These are quality looking projects too. DT Kannapolis is starting to develop into a legit little employment/residential node. If we could ever get some regional rail going, with the station so close by, it could really be something special. Sort of like a mini-Silver Spring or Rockville.

So much construction going on in downtown Kannapolis I will put this here.  3 residential projects underway a for sale townhome community by TriPointe homes, and 2 rental apartment buildings including the 7 story building going up next to Atrium Health Park home of the Cannonballers baseball team.  If you have not been to downtown K-town you need to make the trip.  Saw a photo of the old Cannon Mills where the new downtown Kannapolis stands today.   Lots of renovations of store fronts including a live music venue and wedding venue in an old theater. 

Yes Kannapolis rising and someday even a 12 story apartment tower discussed above.

A reminder to latecomers that Kannapolis was a traditional company town. From 1906 when the Cannon Mills was established the mill owned all the structures and land in the town. All services and provisions provided by the mill. No one lived in the town without approval of the mill owners and committee members. Loss of employment would mean termination of housing lease. Byssinosis or "brown lung" due to inhalation of cotton dust? Not our problem. No incorporation or citizen input throughout its history until 1985 after purchase of the mill and town by David Murdock and transfer of residential properties to the residents. 

As a neighbor of mine said years ago that when he was a teenager he began work in the Cannon mill and after a year or two he was made redundant. "Best thing Mr. Cannon ever could have done for me". This conversation was circa 1972.

edit: This American Serfdom is well within living memory.

More like a Marietta or Roswell.
