Cabarrus/Rowan Developments

But where will it be built in Cabarrus?

Kroger Co. plans to build an Ocado-powered automated warehouse in North Carolina to fill online orders, marking the 16th customer fulfillment center (CFC) that the supermarket giant has announced.

Plans call for the 200,000-square-foot North Carolina CFC to go into operation within 24 months after ground-breaking on the site, Cincinnati-based Kroger said Wednesday. The company didn’t specify the location of the North Carolina facility but had announced in October that it planned to construct a CFC in the South.

The local incentives will come from Cabarrus County and the city of Concord, and are expected to be approved in the near future. Documents show that Cabarrus County beat out locations in Rock Hill and Fort Mill for the project.

Kroger Fulfillment Network LLC was the grantee for the Job Development Investment Grant from the state. Harris Teeter Inc. and Fred Meyer Inc. are listed as affiliated entities on the JDIG summary document.

The exact location of the facility was not announced today.

The Concord Planning and Zoning Commission approved the rezoning, annexation and a special-use permit for an industrial project under the codename Project Independence earlier this year. Commission documents show that project includes a fulfillment center of around 198,500 square feet for an unnamed company. The site for Project Independence is just over 53 acres at 227 and 233 N.C. Hwy 49 South, which is just south of Concord.

Another residential development in downtown Kannapolis broke ground today!

https://kannapolisnc.gov/Community/News/ID/1941/Kannapolis-Announces-New-Development-Project-Adjacent-to-Atrium-Health-Ballpark

The dollar amount initially announced for the new Kroger complex in Concord is lower then what it actually will be!

Follow up article to the one above concerning the new residential development in Kannapolis.  This project will also include a Marriott Hotel.  Doesn't specify if that hotel is part of the immediate construction or if that will come later.  Apparently the hotel license has be awarded though,

Came across this article concerning some local development in China Grove.  Nothing earth shattering, but the article does point out the dilemma of developing property within the right of way of the railroad tracks and the uncertainty to property owners if the railroad wants the property in the future for what ever reason.  If you have been through downtown China Grove, the railroad tracks run VERY close to buildings on the east side of downtown.
